glencar Does anyone know for sure if the venue listing is accurate?
October 6th, 2004 09:42 PM
glencar The neutered version of Live Licks is $24.98 at amazon. Take off her top & it's $2 less. LOL
October 6th, 2004 10:12 PM
ResidentMule we should put someone from the board in charge or designing a more professional looking bootleg cover. i mean, if anyone herer actually decides to buy this

I personally never understood why they decided to keep the Twickenham version of Shelter over the MSG version. I'm sure there's enough people on this board will bitch about either one, but the HBO had a much better Lisa solo. so i wouldn't mind having it just to kinda correct that mistake - but I can wait until I see a $3 copy

but if I got my wish, no recording of any version of Satisfaction from the Licks tour would ever see the light of day, so I guess I just can't win

Soldatti Some versions really sucks. Monkey Man from MSG? Buu..

Poplar

It's the only thing in my time following the Stones that really hurts.

How does this affect your expectations for the album?

October 7th, 2004 10:47 AM
glencar It doesn't bother me as much as some others. I'm assuming it's being done for contractual obligations & I still ahven't seen actual confirmation of the song performance locations.
October 7th, 2004 11:06 AM
JaggerLips I won't be buying it, I am prepared to wait for their new studio album. The best of/live album releases get a bit tired in the end. I can't understand buying all the best of albums when you've already got the cds/vinyls anyway.

I started off with 40 Licks and then went about buying the albums been a Stones fan for nearly 2 years now and still not got all the albums yet.

Not much, i'm tired of this cash-in material that's all.

Steel Wheels What's wrong with releasing one, full, complete show? The Stones could have released something really hot, but instead, this is old news and it's not even out yet.

LuckyWithTheLadies I don't understand this thread at all. I was overjoyed when I heard about this CD. I will be buying it the same day it hits the racks. And am counting the days till it does hit the racks. The only thing that irks me about it is: why the heck did they wait so long to release it? I think the song selection is great. I think the cover art is great. I don't understand the gripeing. It's got the hits PLUSS the obscure stuff. What else do you want? The comparison of the Stones to the Clash confuses me. This is like compareing a Microsoft software release to a Shareware software release. Two very different market realities between the two. Furthermore, if the Stones started strip mineing their past for "new" releases they would catch holly hell from the press and the people on this board for cashing in on their glory days for money. Which may or may not be all that successful anyway, witness the much hallowed R and R circus. It was the stuff of legends till it was released and turned out to be not all the exciting. And from the Stone's point of view this puts modern recordings of their songs (their babies, their pride and joys) out there on the market. One thing that hurts the Stones as a modern musical force, is the antiquted recording sound of their songs. This release will put modern sounding recordings in the hands of casual Stone's fans. This is a good thing. You die hard fans may prefer the thin 60s accoustic sound of Let It Bleed, but the average modern rock fan wants to hear Brown Suger with the sonic blast of Metallica or Eminem.

I know. Brown Sugar isn't on Let It Bleed. Flame me. I don't care.

Just my opinion. But this thread really irritates me. Nearly ruined my day. What the heck do you want from the Stones that will make you happy? Their unlisted telephone numbers? Their personal and embarrasing home movies given away to strangers for free? A personal check from their bank accounts mailed to each fan?

The Stone's have reached a point in their careers where no matter what the do they will be critisized - because they have been too successful. It's Lonely at the Top. But come to think of it. On the '69 tour they were critized for chargeing too much for tickets. And now that tour is the stuff of legends. Seen by many Stone's fans as perfection. An era before they "sold out" to money.

glencar Some original new music would be a nice start. Another live album is sort of ho-hum.
October 8th, 2004 08:41 PM
LuckyWithTheLadies Ya Yas is ho hum? An album which, you will remember, was released for business reasons. The business reason being Liver Than You'll Ever Be was selling too well and the Stones weren't getting any money from it.

I prefer the live albums to the studio albums. Probably alone in that. But Stone's live RULE!!!!!!!!!!

Given that the new material on Forty Licks was completely ignored by fans and critics alike, maybe new material doesnt seem like that great of an idea when they've just come off a successful tour that got lots of positive attention from both fans and critics and of which they are understandably very aritisticaly proud of.

ANY live album from ANY band will get trashed by the critics. And unfortunately most Stones fans seem to fall in line behind the critic's opinions. Except in the case of Mick's solo career, which the critics like and the fans absolutely hate.

Bottom line: live albums are today a fo paw. Just ask Peter Frampton.

On two years Forty Licks, Jump Back, Live Licks...
October 10th, 2004 04:18 AM
marko I still dont see a point releasing this.Bastard wont sell
more than 300 000.If even that much.First of all, song selection sucks. They should have released only songs, which
were NOT on 4-flicks.
And release this earlier.....but xmas time is soon so...
Ill pass this release, untill i get it for 10euros.
October 10th, 2004 09:24 AM
exilestones@netscape I am glad for Can't You Hear Me Knocking and That's How Strong but even I was hoping for more different stuff.

The next question if this venue list is true is What about overedubs?

No Security sold more than that, 320.000 copies only on the States.

JumpingKentFlash I've said it before and I'll gladly say it again: This live CD is for casual fans. NOT HARDCORE FANS!!!!!!!! What's the big deal??? I can't see any reason to whine about them not putting out something for the hardcore fans (such as myself) all the time. No Security was for hardcores in a way. It had loads of songs that wasn't released before. Then came Four Flicks. Also with heaps and piles of song never released live before. The casual fans haven't had a CASUAL live Stones album in 13 years. Give them a break. They need something too you know. And I think it's gonna be SOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOD when it comes out. The idea of sort of mixing No Security and Flashpoint (In the sense of having some rare live tracks mixed with the war horses) is kindda good IMO. Then the casuals discover new songs.
And then we hear about a new album and a new tour from Mick Jagger. AND PEOPLE JUST KEEP ON WHINING!!!!!! What the hell is wrong with everybody???

October 10th, 2004 06:04 PM
justforyou Well, to the casual fan - Live Licks might as well be from different shows than 40 Flicks. For the hardcore fans - well that is obvious.

So the only remaining reason (if in fact the sources for the tracks are correct) is to save money, which the record company wants to and the stones shouldn't care less about...

With so many nice concerts from Aragon, Bangalore to Werchter, I'd expect a release with 'new' tracks.
October 10th, 2004 06:30 PM
JumpingKentFlash Hmmm. The casual fan wouldn't buy Four Flicks. Too expensive. And if Live Licks is for the casual fan, there's no need to overdub so many new tracks, because they didn't hear them before.

(But I would love if the Stones stopped using that "Licks" thing all the time. -What's wrong with "Foottappers and Wheelshunters"???).
October 10th, 2004 06:42 PM
Soldatti The main problem with this thing is why comes out now? Why not last year when Four Flicks was out? Every artist release a Live album and DVD at the same time, less the Stones and if have the same songs and same sources that Four Flicks, why a year after?

For fucks sake, Kent, when are you ever going to get it?
Releasing a live album a year after all but one of the bloody songs was on Four Flicks smacks of pure laziness, zero creative imagination and sheer cash-in. Even if theyd used different live versions of the songs that were on FF, I'd give them a tiny bit of credit but this is a pile of shit and they deserve to be pilloried for it.

The issue of casual fans or hardcore fans isnt the main thing here. This is pure product and nothing else. If youre that easily pleased, you should be listening to Westlife.

I'd love to see how you come to the conclusion that people are whining at the fact there will be a new album and tour. Thats utter bullshit. And one good news story on the band's future plans doesnt negate the fact that this live album nonsense is a badly-timed, stupid and greedy exercise in commercialism with absolutely nothing in it that will give the band any credibility whatsoever. Just because we're happy theyre going to tour and record again doesnt mean we should all be having some kind of cyberwank because theyre 'kind' enough to throw something substandard 'product' at us

The Licks tour ended a year ago. Get over it and move on.
