JAGGER AND RINGO IN LINE FOR McCARTNEY'S US BENEFIT SHOW
Thursday 27 September 2001 5:41pm
Paul McCartney's dad was a firefighter
Mick Jagger and Ringo Starr are being lined up for Paul McCartney's New York fundraising show.
The concert will take place in front of 18,000 people in Madison Square Garden on October 20.
It will raise cash for the families of firefighters affected by the terrorist attacks on the city.
Jagger and Neil Young have been approached, and Starr has offered his services.
The show is being overseen by Miramax boss Harvey Weinstein with the help of MTV and VH1. It will be broadcast around the world.
McCartney was in New York when the tragedy unfolded and his father was a fireman in Liverpool during the Second World War.
It is understood organisers are hoping bands such as Led Zeppelin will re-form for the concert
The Who, who have played a series of reunion gigs together, could also play. And younger artists are being asked to take part.
Major TV networks in the UK are expected to take part in talks to carry the concert, which would also see a spin-off album.
McCartney's spokesman said: "He was in New York when the tragedy happened, and like everyone has been affected very deeply by it and wants to do what he can to help those who have been affected by this appalling tragedy."

Having Mick perform would be great, but I really wish that the STONES would get together for such a special event.
