'Gromit' has leg up at U.S. box office
Los Angeles | October 10, 2005 12:01:13 AM IST
The new animated feature Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit was No. 1 at the U.S. box office with an estimated gross of $16.1 million.
Daily Variety said the Claymation comedy's opening-weekend take was on the low side of industry expectations, in part because five new movies arrived at the box office this weekend. Still, Jodie Foster's airborne drama Flightplan was second with an estimated $10.8 million -- just ahead of the new Cameron Diaz-Toni Collette feature In Her Shoes, which opened with an estimated $10 million.
The new Al Pacino-Matthew McConaughey gambling drama Two for the Money opened with $8.9 million.
The Gospel -- the story of an R&B singer's faith crisis -- was No. 5 with $8 million.
