Cal Glattfelder, owner of Sidetracks Music, says sales of Rolling Stones albums have gone up recently. The Daily Progress/ Rachel Zahumensky

There’s not a hotel room to be had within 15 miles of Charlottesville Thursday, the night of the Rolling Stones concert at Scott Stadium.

Rooms on the days prior to and after the show are in short supply as well.

In addition to lodging, Stones merchandise is moving from store shelves. Also, visitors will be gassing up in the area and bars are expecting busy nights.

It’s all part of the economic influx stemming from a few hours of rock music.

Tickets excluded, the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce estimates direct expenditures from concertgoers to be in the $3 million range.

Mark Shore, director of the Charlottesville Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau, said his group is fielding calls from visitors looking for rooms, many of whom want lodging through the weekend.

“Our hope is that people will come for a long weekend … stick around and spend some time and money,” Shore said.

October is typically a strong month for hotel occupancy in the area. Last October, rooms were booked at about 83 percent, compared with the year’s average of about 72 percent.

At Durty Nelly’s, the closest watering hole to the venue, bartender Shawn Schooling was bracing for the impact.

“We expect to be overrun,” Schooling said. “If it’s anything like the Dave Matthews Band was, it’s going to be a madhouse.”

Everyone employed at the bar and deli is expected to work that night. Schooling said many plan to see the Stones and then scramble to beat the crowd back to the bar.

“I’m going to the show, and then running back here to tend bar,” he said.

Cal Glattfelder, owner of Sidetracks Music, said the Stone’s latest offering, “A Bigger Bang,” had been moving well, something he attributed to a combination of the disc’s surprising strengths and interest stemming from Thursday’s show.

“We’re selling a lot of their back catalog, too” Glattfelder said.

And as the music store owner is reaping some benefits from interest in the upcoming show, he thought it best to reciprocate in some fashion.

As such, Glattfelder has placed a handful of fliers around town, publicly offering the band the opportunity to play a show in his store.

And there would be no cover charge.

Does the record sell after they play a show?
If they played more tracks off it, it would for sure!
