192k is by far the worst # for a new Stones release in the Us..Iam sorry Soldatti, this will not hit 500k by x-mas.

Soldatti The US numbers are very far from the expectations, the strong European sales are making the difference this time.

I don't think so, Green Day CD is selling like the first day and the CD came out a year ago.
Sadly, the problem is BAD promotion, NO video and LACK of airplay. Add that the ageing groups/artists are getting a tough time in both UK & US too. Here in Argentina the Stones are relevant among the 18-25 crowd, the same in many countries of Europe. They didn't get a young mass crowd/Top 40 hit in US since Steel Wheels and every new studio release sold less than that album:
Steel Wheels: +2.5 m
VL: 2 m
B2B: 1.2 m

corgi37 Well, i dont know. I mean, they are touring the U.S. right now. What else promotion do you frigging need? Are they selling the cd at the shows?

But, yeah, no clip is just pathetic. Really amateur hour. The singles market is pretty much stuffed (unless you are a babbling idiot frog!!!) but a clip would have helped enourmously.

Here in Oz, the new songs have come, gone, and quickly forgotten. Whilst Brown Sugar and Start me up are played all the time.

Anyway, i dont what is wrong with you Yanks. You are letting every one down again. 1st you make Land of the Dead earn a pitiful amount, and now you are turning on the Stones! Maybe they should have toured Europe 1st this time!

Maybe, next time, they will!
September 26th, 2005 10:33 PM
the good I know a lot of people in their 20's who listen to the Stones. But I guess there is something to it if none of the other older artists are selling well in the States. Hey, we should be happy though- its a good album, and at least we beat Macca

There is a God, and He is good!!!
September 27th, 2005 01:03 AM
corgi37 They aint buying it. They are probably down loading it.
September 27th, 2005 01:14 AM
GimmeExile The album was released in the days following Katrina. A lot of folks haven't focused on it yet. It's a long album and a long tour. There will be more opportunities to promote the album. Remember, there was a blurb somewhere that an expanded edition of ABB will be released around the holidays.

Regardless, I am disappointed with the initial sales, which are critical to an album's success.
September 27th, 2005 09:01 AM
corgi37 By expanded, do they mean dvd as well?
September 27th, 2005 09:51 AM
West 8 If radio stations are not playing the new stuff, could it be that VH1 & MTV don't want to view the video? What a load of bs,but what can be the hold up? They had a video shoot like 2 months ago. What radio stations are not playing the songs, just top 40 or Rock stations as well ?

Correct..initial sales =publicity and momentum..sales in the US flat since 2nd week..need atleast 30k a week to be competitive.

Jair How many copies Macca sold by now ?

Other thing: the Jap edition (with a DVD) has been postponed again, now to Ocober 4. What a shame!!!
The initial data was August 15!!!
No content to fill the DVD or what?

Indeed. It's a shame that people would rather listen to My Chemical Romance than the Stones
September 28th, 2005 08:38 AM
Jair The fact is: Mick is no longer worried in write good songs, build great melodies e intel lyrics, etc etc etc.

Mick is just & simple a business man, not a real artist.

He is using the Stones purely & simply to make money,
not to make music.

The result we can see clearly. His strategy is no working anymore.

My ABB album leave my stereo a few days now, & in its place is the new Macca, which, at least, is showing some concerning in write good lyrics and melodies.

No, I'm not in the wrong board. Just listen both and think.

Also, no one of those ABB tracks will become a "classic" Rolling Stones tune. And, in some yrs, you wont see they playing any of those ABB tracks in their concerts, because is all the same shit.

As usual, Joey was right: the album is a BUST!

theyre getting better promotion in the US than anywhere else by virtue of the fact theyre touring there and will be until next spring

there is no excuse for the fact that over a million people in the US have shelled out hundreds of dollars for a concert ticket and are therefore aware that the band are touring behind a new album, yet barely 10% of that amount will pay a measly $10 or $15 to buy a CD of their 'favourite' band

take into account the fact that there are thousands of people who will buy the album but cant afford to see the shows, and thats a shocking indictment of the band's US fanbase - but its a natural progression when target your act at an older, richer and therefore more nostalgia orientated market

Most of the people who go to Stones shows in the US probably dont watch MTV and dont NEED to hear songs on the radio to be aware that there is a new album out.

I would imagine there are lots of hip hop artists in the US who sell more records than the Stones without getting as much airplay as they could do due to the content of their material

the video was shot when they were in Ottawa - which is exactly a month ago.

The only hold up is at the Stones' end

The fact that they didnt even shoot the video until after the single had been released is artistic insanity

Gazza Joey

never mind all these endless debates about why havent the Stones done better, here are some questions that really need answering :

* Why is it that Channel 4's Big Brother are allowed to install loads
of cameras in a house and watch the residents' every move. But when I
put one tiny camera in my neighbour's bathroon I get bound over for 12
months. There's no justice.

* These suicide bombers really get my goat. What an evil way to kill
innocent people, running screaming into a crowded place like madmen,
blowing themselves and everyone else to bits. Whatever happened to
good old-fashioned gentlemen terrorists like the IRA, who'd quietly
pop a nail bomb under a pub table and leave without making a song and
dance about it.

* What's all this nonsense about that 66-year-old Romanian woman
being the world's oldest mum? My mum's 77. Beat that.

* I often receive bills saying 'final demand'. But it never is. If
anything they start asking me for more money.

* You often hear that "blood is thicker than water". Well I've got
both of them coming out of my arse at the moment, and to be perfectly
honest I can't feel any difference.

* Could the Home Secretary explain to me how biometric checks on iris
patterns and fingerprints are going to help keep tabs on Muslim cleric
Abu Hamsa?

* "One pound a week will supply water for an entire village in
Tanzania" says Oxfam. So how come United Utilities charge me twenty
pounds a month for my three bedroom semi? The fleecing b*stards.

* How come rap artist Dr. Dre can use the 'N' word on his
multi-million selling albums and win a MOBO award, yet when I used it
at my son's football match I was asked to leave the park? Once again,
it's one law for the rich and another for the poor.

* So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening"
do they? Try telling that to my mate Andy. He's been deaf for 20 years.

* They say "you can't judge a book by its cover". What nonsense. The
last edition of High School Anal that I bought featured a young lady
stuffing a big one up her bomb-bay on the front page, and this turned
out to be an excellent indication of the contents.

* According to Nietzsche, "That which does not kill me makes me
stronger". I'm sure my grandad would not agree. He suffered a series of
massive strokes in the early '90s which have left him an incontinent
vegetable for the past 12 years.

* It's uncanny how some of these old sayings are true. "Absence makes
the heart grow fonder", said my wife as she waved goodbye to me on the
way to spend a month with her mother. Since then I have grown quite fond
of my next door neighbour. I actually gave her one on the living room
carpet this morning.

* The recent suicide of Harold Shipman has thrown up some interesting
questions. For a start, does Shipman killing himself take his official
tally up to 216, or does it count as an own goal? Where does this final
score place our national champ in the world league table?

* The government says that there are nearly 50,000 people with HIV in
Britain, a third of who do not even know that they have it. Is it just
me, or is it a bit harsh that the government know and haven't told the
poor sods?

* Never mind ventriloquists like Keith Harris and Roger DeCourcey. What
about Professor Stephen Hawking? I saw him on telly blathering on about
galaxies for hours and I never saw his lips move once. Genius!.

Jair And Keith, Charlie e Ronnie, obviously, are Mick's employees.
Mick bought their stocks on the Rolling Stones a few yrs ago. Now they are Mick's YES MAM.

The BIG question is: what's the price of each one in Nasdaq?

I heard Mick is demanding "strange things" of his slaves.

The_Worst The thing is if they had made "Oh no not you again" the first single & filmed a video like I have previously described and released it about a month ago & had it all over VH1 in America I think things would have been much better.

The bottom line is half the people in America who I went to the shows with didn't even know that the Stones had a new album out. Bottom line, most of the people who go to the shows want to hear Satisfaction & Start me Up rather than Rough Justice & Back of my Hand.... Sad but true...
