Streets of Love (Spain)

last US #1 - Miss You (SMU reached #2)
last UK #1 - Honky Tonk women (although 'brown sugar' topped some charts, I think)

19th September 2007 07:39 PM
Gazza ..says the man who is, at the time I write this, said thread's most recent contributor ! LOL

Trey Krimsin Guilty as charged. This may not say too many good things about me though.

I am indifferent about "Charmed Life", to change the subject......

The last #1 in Australia was Start Me Up.

Angie was the last #1 worldwide, sales & airplay, the song reached the top spot in about 20+ countries.
Miss You was #1 in USA and Canada, but only a top 10 hit worldwide.
Start Me Up was a top 10 hit worldwide but never got close to the top except in some countries (U.S, Canada, Australia, Spain)

Anybody Seen My Baby? was the most played song in the radio, worldwide, for a week in October 1997 according to varios sources, it was their biggest world hit since Harlem Shuffle or even SMU.

Ronnie Richards If anyone cares, only the following three Stones singles have made #1 here in Norway:

Satisfaction
The Last Time
Angie

bilsim They've been relatively succesful with album releases, Voodooo Lounge spent 24 weeks at number 1 in the UK.

corgi37 Stones last #1 in Oz was Start me up. Also, last album #1 was Tattoo You. So, in 1981 they had the #1 single/album. Prior to that, their last 31 single/album was Angie/GHS in 73.

And, i 100% blame their fucking total ignoring our audience for 22 years for causing their downfall. We had bands like Fleetwood Mac, Police, Kiss and artists like The Boss come over and give memorable huge shows.

In 1981/82, the cunts were supposed to tour, but chickened out. Rumours i heard, was because we were a very big "punk" country - which was not true. Dont forget, America never got punk. Oh, yeah, a few dissaffected did, most didnt. right through the 70's, America was tight jeans, Adidas ROMES, and white t-shirts. In latter years, the Stones blamed our dollar. Well Sir, i will remind you..My 1st trip to the land of Disney and the KKK was in 1979. In that year, one Aussie dollar bought $1.11 U.S.

So, i take it, the Stones were just wanking, and couldnt be bothered coming over to the 3rd largest english speaking record market in the world.

And, it cost them!

But, awwww, i forgave Mick in 1988 when he was solo. Oh yeah, i fucking HATED them in 89/90 for not coming here. But, awwwww, i loved 'em again in 95 when they returned.

Maybe 24 weeks in the charts (if that), but while it topped the charts the week it came out (mid July) it was only #1 for a week.

Wasn't that the Billboard chart? There were 3 charts back then: Billboard, Cashbox & Radio and Records.
