Topic: Bigger Bang: a pun on Beggar's Banquet? Return to archive
September 24th, 2005 01:50 PM
morocco Folks, I am the first one to discover this. A Bigger Bang is a pun on the title of one of the Stone's greatest albums, Beggar's Banquet.

You heard it from me first. What do I win?

star star a pun is like, for example, "gun crime, it's just a shot away" if a reporter was writing an article on the UK's rising gun crime. you're just paralleling the two albums.
and im being pendantic

nankerphelge Are you sure it isn't a play on words with:

Black and Blue

Between the Buttons

Bridges to Babylon

Highwire Rob Mirriam-Websters Dictionary:

Main Entry: al·lit·er·a·tion
Pronunciation: &-"li-t&-'rA-sh&n
Function: noun
Etymology: ad- + Latin littera letter
: the repetition of usually initial consonant sounds in two or more neighboring words or syllables (as wild and woolly, threatening throngs) -- called also head rhyme, initial rhyme

Morocco, that is a fascinating similarity you point to. Mick seems to be keen on some of those head rhymes.

morocco But this is more than an alliteration I am speaking of; this is a deliberate pun on "Beggar's Banquet."
September 24th, 2005 05:46 PM
nankerphelge There's no pun.

There is no more relation between Bigger/Beggars and Bang/Banquet than there is Bigger/Some and Bang/Girls!

(I said Bang Girls!)
