gimmekeef Great guitar player..maybe top 1-3 in his day or any day.Loved his music however seldom think about playing it these days.He has a loyal following but as time goes by it dwindles.I preferred some of less popular tunes...Room Full of Mirrors/Dolly Dagger etc over the real heavy stuff like Voodoo Chile...Surely a legend though...Wonder how he might have evolved ala Dylan?

Nasty Habits Alas, we can only dream of what the Miles Davis/Jimi Hendrix/James Brown 1972 SuperJam might have sounded like. Would have been some crazy shit.

Lately I've been enjoying the songs he cut with Curtis Knight in '66 or so - particularly the amazing Like a Rolling Stone ripoff, How Does It Feel? but also some of the really ridiculous stuff like Gloomy Monday and Gotta Have a New Dress. Fun and rockin.

And, yeah, I'd rather listen to stuff like "Wait Until Tomorrow" or "Crosstown Traffic" rather than any of the really epic stuff.

He sure could whip it on that guitar.

hey nasty - yes that is for sure

as i said in another thread just recently - the only real "genius" that rock and roll has thrown up

down side - father of thousands of stupid guitar players and millions of terrible guitar solos

the Curtis mayfield type stuff he does in things like Little Wing and Bold as Love is just so good

star spangled banner at woodstock is one of the important musical performances of the 20th century , if not the most
(imhmfgdo) and Monterey one of the most joyous (love those backwards somersaults during the solos!!)

What the fuck? He was simply the best rock guitarist to ever live. The Van Halen and Satriani wankering ain't got nothin' on ol' Jimi.

Jimi Hendrix’s first American gig at the Monterey International Pop Music Festival on June 18, 1967 changed guitar forever. By the time Jimi set his Strat on fire, he had already set the whole world on fire.

All hail Jimi: King of Rock 'n' Roll!

You got that right, SIA and Nasty. Jimi Hendrix was THE greatest guitar player of all time. He played that thing like no one had ever done before. A true original. Great examples you gave there. "Stone Free" is one of my seldom-heard favorites, but all of his stuff is amazing.
