Ten Thousand Motels BORN TO BE WILD

Words and music by Mars Bonfire

Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die

Born to be wild
Born to be wild

wisertime One of my favorite bands. I used to listen to the Lp's collection of my dad when I was about 10 years old (14 years ago) and he had all the Steppenwolf albums.
I had tickets to go see them in 1998 here in France but it was cancelled.
John Kay solo albums are also great records.
If you want a good compilation, buy "Steppenwolf Gold" released this year by Geffen/Universal.

Ten Thousand Motels DON"T STEP ON THE GRASS

Starin' at the boob tube, turnin' on the big knob
Tryin' to find some life in the waste land
Fin'ly found a program, gonna deal with Mary Jane
Ready for a trip into hate land

Obnoxious Joe comes on the screen
Along with his guest self-righteous Sam
And one more guy who doesn't count
His hair and clothes are too far out

While pushin' back his glasses Sam is sayin' casually
"I was elected by the masses"
And with that in mind he starts to unwind
A vicious attack on the finest of grasses

Well it's evil, wicked, mean and nasty
Don't step on the grass, Sam
And it will ruin our fair country
Don't be such an ass, Sam
Well, it will hook your Sue and Johnny
You're so full of bull, Sam
All will pay that disagree with me
Please give up you already lost the fight, alright

Misinformation Sam and Joe
Are feeding to the nation
But the one who didn't count counted them out
By exposing all their false quotations
Faced by a very awkward situation
This is all he'd say to save the day

Well it's evil, wicked, mean and nasty
Don't step on the grass, Sam
And it will ruin our fair country
Don't be such an ass, Sam

Well, it will hook your Sue and Johnny
You're so full of bull, Sam
All will pay that disagree with me
Please give up you already lost the fight alright

You waste my coin Sam, all you can
To jail my fellow man
For smoking all the noble weed
You need much more than him
You've been telling lies so long
Some believe they're true
So they close their eyes to things
You have no right to do
Just as soon as you are gone
Hope will start to climb
Please don't stay around too long
You're wasting precious time

Well it's evil, wicked, mean and nasty
Don't step on the grass, Sam
And it will ruin our fair country
Don't be such an ass, Sam

Well, it will hook your Sue and Johnny
You're so full of bull, Sam
All will pay that disagree with me
Please give up you already lost the fight, alright

FPM C10 I thought they were, to borrow my colleague 2000 Man's phrase, "ginchy" when I was in Jr High. I saw them on Ed Sullivan and Nick St. Nicholas had a dress on - or a bathrobe with stars and moons, or something equally Spinal Tappian. I can still name all the guys in the band except the drummer - Nick, John Kay, Goldie McJohn, Jerry Edmonton ...and who was the drummer? Help me out here!

I had "At Your Birthday Party" and thought that was a pretty cool album. "Jupiter Child" and "Rock Me" and "Cat Killer".

A buddy of mine has a restaurant in State College and the 90's version of Steppenwolf came in when they were in town for a gig, and he expected them to drink hard liquor so he alerted his bar staff - but they all ordered milk!

They musta had a deal with Rickenbacker - those are even Rickenbacker AMPS.

sirmoonie Yeah! Mongo. Hey Gyps, check it out!

You know I've smoked a lot of grass
O' Lord, I've popped a lot of pills
But I never touched nothin'
That my spirit could kill
You know, I've seen a lot of people walkin' 'round
With tombstones in their eyes
But the pusher don't care
Ah, if you live or if you die

God damn, The Pusher
God damn, I say The Pusher
I said God damn, God damn The Pusher man

You know the dealer, the dealer is a man
With the love grass in his hand
Oh but the pusher is a monster
Good God, he's not a natural man
The dealer for a nickel
Lord, will sell you lots of sweet dreams
Ah, but the pusher ruin your body
Lord, he'll leave your, he'll leave your mind to scream

God damn, The Pusher
God damn, God damn the Pusher
I said God damn, God, God damn The Pusher man

Well, now if I were the president of this land
You know, I'd declare total war on The Pusher man
I'd cut him if he stands, and I'd shoot him if he'd run
Yes I'd kill him with my Bible and my razor and my gun

God damn The Pusher
Gad damn The Pusher
I said God damn, God damn The Pusher man

Funny - that song was written by the same guy who wrote "Jeremiah was a bullfrog" and I think he also starred in Sherrif Lobo!

Brainbell Jangler "Monster" was one of the first LPs I owned in high school. I love those guys.

Now, ole Hoyt Axton not only wrote "The Pusher" but also "Snowblind Friend," which Steppenwolf also recorded. And Three Dog Night recorded his "Never Been to Spain" as well as "Joy to the World" (Jeremiah was a Bullfrog). Ringo had a hit with Hoyt's "The No No Song." Before all that, Hoyt co-wrote the Kingston Trio hit "Greenback Dollar." And Hoyt's MOTHER (!), Mae Boren Axton, co-wrote "Heartbreak Hotel."
