First, I had found this on a book called 1oo Greatest Album Covers and low and behold i found the story behind The Sticky Fingers Album in great deatil. In the corner of the page I found an quote written by Mick Jagger.

Mick Jagger: This was the first time we used the tongue logo, I gave a brief to John Pasche of what I wanted, I took the idea from a Indian calendar showing the disembodied tongue of the god Khali at the side of her face. I asked John to make it more modern but still premise.

Keith discussed the Kali connection in his 1971 Rolling Stone Magazine interview (Keith is on the cover). A couple of years ago STONES PEOPLE MAGAZINE (the Dutch one, not the Japanese) ran an article on the Stones' connections to Kali. It was pure speculation and a bit disturbing, but very much in keeping with the Stones of that era. VOODOO LOUNGE, indeed. |
