Ten Thousand Motels RICHARDS: 'QUALITY OF DRUGS IS TERRIBLE NOW'

Veteran wildman KEITH RICHARDS claims the only reason he no longer takes drugs is because they are now of a low quality. The BROWN SUGAR guitarist was a heroin addict for most of the 1970s and remains rock's most celebrated survivor. However, the 62-year-old is less-than-impressed with contemporary narcotics. He says, "I really think the quality's gone down. "All they do is try and take the high out of everything. I don't like the way they're working on the brain area instead of just through the blood system. "That's why I don't take them any more. And you're talking to a person who knows his drugs." However, Richards admits to sampling morphine again in hospital, following brain surgery after he fell out of a tree while on holiday in Fiji in April (06). He adds, "I don't take drugs unless I have to under great duress with my brain open. "I've had a couple of weeks on morphine. I did try to squeeze the little bit extra out of the night nurse. She was very accommodating."

sirmoonie Keep drinking Keith, your brains disappeared 20 years ago, so how would you know?

I think it comes from the November "Q" issue and an interview they did with Keith.

I'm hoping contactmusic has misquoted... Otherwise we can all rest assured most of Keith's brain cells are burnt baby

A fabrication that at least made me laugh.

I think Keith is intelligent enough to know he was not taking drugs that did not affect the brain.

F505 Keith Richards could better be worried about the quality of his guitar playing lately.

jb As evidenced by todays horrendous sales, no one is interested in Keith's fake /made-up quotes. His quotes are about as spontaneous as 'It's good to be here, it's good to be anywhere"..Keith=nerd.

I thought that was the point. I always heard that morphine was God's gift to dying people....not necessarily to get high on.

Saint Sway Keith is telling the truth. As evidenced by the "Sister Morphine" being one of the 20 songs rehearsed at last nights soundcheck
