paintmeblack Hey all, the Village Voice just put out an article on the Rolling Stones' Madison Square Garden show, check it out:

Saint Sway you know its a good show when even the voice cant find a way to trash it!

jpenn11 No trashing? It seems the author went out of her way to find some bad things to say about a show she clearly enjoyed.

The crowd was flagging: Sensing a potential energy drop, Jagger whipped out emergency moves...a modified "ba-fungu."

Complaints about the set--part 1: we didn't get "Shattered"

Complaints about the set--part 2: silly cover of "Get Up, Stand Up."

Complaints about new arrangements--part 1: slowed-down "19th Nervous Breakdown" sounded like a Vicodin taunt

Complaints about new arrangements--part 2: the herky-jerked "Paint It Black"

Complaints about the absence of strident politics (this is the Village Voice): a more retro Godardian treatment on "Sympathy for the Devil"--though Jagger would probably balk at JumboTron footage of revolutionary mayhem.

Complaints about the setlist and the absence of strident politics: No "Sweet Neo Con" either.

Complaints about having fun at a journalist's expense: the confetti-puking blast that scared the living shit out of me at the end of the show.

Saint Sway lighten up Francis. It was overall positive. And the critisisms were very mild and honestly fair. critics critique. Its their job.

contrary to what most of the brainless sheep/Stones-freak androids here expect, no real review is ever going to lavishly praise every single moment of the show.

ooh - they didnt like a few of the songs. How shocking!

believe or not - in the eyes of most normal humans, Stones shows actually have their occassional down moments.

time is on my side I agree the review seemed overall positive even if she did go out of her way to write much more about what was wrong with the show than what was right & entertaining about it.

However, if you compare that review to this one:

"how f#ckin cool was that MSG set list!!!!!

Best band. They can play a totally different show every night and rock every single song. So.... no more sitting back and saying its acceptable for them to coast. Get up. Stand up. You mofos!!

an AMAZING SHOW! One of the all-time best at MSG!"

I think she found it more of a yawn that the above reviewer did who, when writing the review, didn't seem to find too much fault in the permformance.
