Topic: The Best Stones Song Ever Is... Return to archive Page: 1 2

jcdesq Tumbling Dice.

It is the best song on the best Stones album, and it still rocks despite being played to death. It is the perfect Stones song. Charlie is amazing, Keith's licks are sublime and Mick's singing is perfect. I urge you all to revisit this masterpiece.

By the way, I was listening to "Good Time Woman" the other day while visiting my retarded brother at his hospital. I was amazed at how the Stones transformed this raw gem into such a classic. It put me in such a good mood. Unfortunately, the hospital director informed me that my brother was, once again, smearing feces on the floor and writhing through his own mess like a snake. No one wants a feces snake for a brother.

Kudos to the great Jimmy Miller!!!! George Martin should bow to you!!!!!!!!!!!

Jumping Jack Let me be the first to state the obvious: Jumping Jack Flash

Lethargy Midnight Rambler

jcdesq I love JJF. And I think it is the most important rock song ever written, as it brought the music world out of psychedelica and back to blues based rock and roll, but it just does not contain all the elements of Tumbling Dice. JJF is a wonderful, riffy jumble, but it is not as developed as the great Tumbling Dice.

Oddly enough, my blind sister's favorite Stones song is "Short and Curlies." It could be that she likes the catchy melody, but it is most likely due to her simple mind and ibuprofen addiction.

Jumping Jack Flash but it can change from moment to moment depending on the mood & moment. The last TIME this thread came around a few months back I chose Midnight Rambler (live version).

Personally, I don't think Tumbling Dice is the best song on Exile and never have (much prefer Rocks Off). As we so often seem to do, we agree to disagree in our choices

The Wick Back to Zero.

Jumping Jack ADTL is the best song on Exile followed by Rocks Off and RTJ. TD is 4th best on EOMS and really tired and deserved a rest in Albany.

Jumping Jack Flash !

Saint Sway I have siamese cousins that are adjoined at the neck. Freddie, the one with terrets is a big fan of Neighbors. While, Chip, likes to go on meth binges and listen to Dancing With Mr D over and over again while sniffing ether and watching hours of porn.

a funny thing about them being siamese twins is that they disagree on almost everything, but the one thing they absolutely agree on is that Tumbling Dice is no way the best Stones song ever.

JaggerLips I'm pretty hooked on all the new songs on the new album at the moment.

Some of the songs well and truly reflected my Italian 'Experience'

(Note *I have been on holiday in Italy for 2 weeks)

stonesmik "Jumpin' jack flash" as far as rock is concerned.
"Tumbling dice" if it's all about the roll.

jcdesq Wild Horse is the worse Stones song ever. It reminds me of the Friday night dances at Camp Mohawk in the Berkshires. One time, back in the '80's, I kissed Jen Jaffe at one of these dances and contracted Pediatric AIDS. Disgustamundo.
September 19th, 2005 03:11 PM
monkey_man Monkey Man of course!

The Volitan Satisfaction is the best.

texile tumbling dice is the ultimate stones song - not the most popular, but this song personifies the strange, exotic heavy groove of the the stones at thier peak - it took me awhile to fully appreciate its greatness but i believe it IS the quintessential stones in all thier glory....
just turn it up all the way and try to resist it - its absolutely hypnotic - the coda with charlie building up and building up........its beautiful!
then charlie crashes back into that heavy groove.....
the SOUND of this song is like voodoo.........

agree entirely - and don't forget the truly wonderful backing vocals (keith's and the girls)

the ultimate groove

also one of Micks best lyrics - clever without being too clever

however jcd - i completely disagree with your assesment of Wild Horses - it is a beautiful song - and the live recordings from 75/76 create a type of music that is hard to define - no longer simply a country tune - with keith's flanged guitars and ronnie doing some of his best work with the band ever it makes you realise just how great the stones are

Lazy Bones Not my favourite - but the obvious - JUMPIN' JACK FLASH!
