Topic: Crazy mama with hot legs?? Return to archive
September 13th, 2004 03:49 AM
padre I listened to B&B the other day and it suddenly hit me:
has anyone else noticed the striking similarity between Crazy Mama and Rod's Hot Legs?
I know the structure both songs have is very common and used in thousands of rockers, but still: the groove, the tempo, the riff (in the end of CM), the melody are all very much alike.
I don't know the exact recording date of Hot Legs, but it was released in -77, couple of years after Black and Blue. Are there any logic facts that connect these two tracks? Were they using the same studio at the time? The song sounds like it's from the Ronnie Wood-catalogue (reminds of IORR) and Ronnie plays on CM, but apparently not on Legs...?

Slim Harpo wrote and performed the original Shake your Hips/Hipshake. The Stones version is a pretty faithful intrepretation from what I recall.

The beginnings to La Grange and Hipshake sound almost identicle with that chicken picken', drum clicken' rhythm, plus those drunken swaggered vocals, but the main body of La Grange is torn straight outta the John Lee Hooker book of rollickin hardcore boogie-style blues.

There was a lawsuit between Hooker and ZZ Top settled in Hookers favor, that claimed the Top had ripped off Boogie Chillun with La Grange.

Who's to say where exactly La Grange came from, but the courts ruled Boogie Chillun.
