voodoopug I also have a big problem with folks who pay bottom dollar and try to squeeze in front of me. This is classless. I also have physically escorted people from getting in front of me and my premium seat!

Monkeytonk-man I understand that the cheaper the tickets, the more open the demographic representation will be by those in attendance, therefore cheaper tickets = more people with a passing interest and not a more serious interest in the band.

What I have issue with is the sweeping generalisation that the more an individual pays has a direct correlation upon, and is somehow representative of the intensity of their loyalty to a band.

I kicked a person of the chair in front of me in 97, and he fell to the ground...I then kicked him in the face and he was escorted out by security.

As a Big/Tall Man, we are typically stereotyped from the start, but we can also be intimidating when necessary.

While both of us are very patient, calculated men, we have our breaking point. I will NOT allow someone from the "cheap seats/sections" to spoil my time by acting a fool and trying to squeeze into my reserved and paid (without interest as credit card balances are the absolute worse financial decision ANYONE can make with regards to asset/wealth management!!!! Please pay off CC debt and do not carry a balance!) seat.

Sadly, i fear we are in the minority, there are many who feel they are entitled to "go wherever they want" in a stadium. This mob type behavior, along with the Who incident is the reason this country is not able to handle many large scale GA shows without incident. The fans have forced the bands/promoters to reserve the best seats for those fans whom are more financially successful (not counting those who max out credit cards/savings to buy these tickets once). This leads to higher revenue, more avenues to sell tickets and typically (I stress TYPICALLY) folks don't become financially successful by not treating others with respect on the way up the ladder (see: Reggie Bush and his kindess and charity he is showing to New Orleans).

Also, the more "known" crowd that is up front, the lesser the chance of some nut running on the stage (see Hampton Roads) as Keith is not as physically capable of defending himself in the same manner he did in 1981, and I am sure Ronnie will not want to stop pointing/waving to flee to safety. Folks like you and I who regularly attend several shows and are upfront are acknowledged by members of the band, particularly Blondie and we put them in a comfort zone.

jb The worst is when "friends" do it. You have to pretend iot's O.K., when you want to tell them to fuck off.

I hate when that happens. Is it worth ruining a friendship because others take advantage of you at a concert?

Although, it is a fine way to find out who your "true friends are" Real friends of yours that feel the need to sneak into the first class section (See: Elaine from the Seinfeld episode where they fly back from St. Louis), one would hope they would rather ruin the experience for a stranger or someone they dislike rather than a friend.

I pay for what I get and don't appreciate people who "upgrade" at my expense. I find these people very offensive.

jb I have heard of people urinating on others at the shows.

Monkeytonk-man Prior to the previous Licks tour, at least in Europe, the concerts were a fixed price for general admission, 'festival seating' if you will.

I am curious how, on the premise that everyone who goes to the concert have paid the same price, how it can be determined who the 'real fans' were. Clearly your dedication could not be aligned with the amount of money parted with. was it the amount of time spent waiting outside of the venue to get in? how close you were to the front?

tickets are far cheaper on average on dates outside of USA, Canada, and Mexico. these are the fans/shows we rate. We are not familiar with the best way to judge level of fandom at GA events, therefore, we do not expose ignorance.

However, attending at least 6-10 shows per tour does go a long way in our book.
13th September 2006 03:43 AM
Monkeytonk-man out of curiosity then, which would be deememd the greater fan?

A fan who pays to go to one concert at $450

or

A fan who pays for cheaper $45 to go to 10 concerts

luxury1 ...or how bout when they think it is so cute to put their kids on their shoulders, after they --illegally--push their way in front of your prime seat? I have had women aggressively shove me around after sneaking in front of me, when I ask them to move, or take thier kids down--some from another Stones board, I fear---who believe it is OK to smash, herd all together in the front. I tend to just back up out of the fray. I cant stand the claustrophobia or fear that my good shoes are going to get ruined...

It is very rude and inconsiderate. Like you, I pay a lot for my tickets, and think I am a pretty good sport, but people take advantage. I also pay top dollar for my kids seat so they don't have to be hoisted into the air.

In all candor, I just e-mailed the Four Seasons to cancel my room. I feel very bad about it, but honestly, I traveled to both the Fenway shows and later the arena shows in Boston. All of these shows were fantastic. I just felt, for the first time, that it was not worth the money(2k a night, another 4k for 2 seats, and another 2k for airline tickets) to retutn to this venue, which in all seriousness, will fill up a bit , but not come close to selling out. What attracted me was the fact it was a "new" opener and perhaps some surprises, but I'll have to wait till Louisville and AC. Also, the fact that it was a 1hr drive from the Four Seasons in downtown Boston to Foxboro also was a big inconvenience. I will miss saying hello to the reat Nellcote, Throbby, Winter, Jizz, Chevysales, and the rest. I wish you all a great show and hope to see you all at another venue.

Can you please explain the Austin seating sitution? Are there no front row reserved? It seems all GA and reserved off to the side?

A GA Stones show sounds fun. It could possibly reach the enthusiasm of the fan crazed Euro show since all the old boring fat yuppy types wont be able to sit in their seats.

GA forces the old bastards in the audience to put down their cell phones, get up off their ass and focus on the show.

I've been to 2 GA Stones shows in the States and they were great because the crowd was packed and enthusiastic. No place for the old douchebags in the audience to sit down and people werent leaving their spots to get concessions during songs that arent on 40 Licks - because their spots would be gone.

Monkeytonk-man Amen brother – General admission – the great equaliser.

Those who can afford the expensive seats can no longer feel more righteous and worthy than those who have paid less to get in. The more enthusiastic fans can work their way towards the front and join in with the throng.

I can’t help but feel that many of the ‘fans’ who pay top dollar to see the Stones and get to the front, aren’t quite so bothered about making sure they are up front and centre when the GA conditions apply

Riffhard What I can't stand are the pretenious fuck fans that scream at me to sit down when I'm shaking my ass, gulping beer, and enjoying the greatest rock and roll band in the world! Who the fuck do these fucknuts think they are?! Where do they think they are?! I mean for fuck's sake you're at a Rolling fucking Stones concert! Get off your lazy ass and have a good time!

The only show recently that I felt out of place standing up was Steely Dan. Their fan base is made up off a bunch of psuedo intellectuals that think that Donald Fagan is their personal Pied Piper. They sit and evaluate every note and can not bother to stand for fear that they might miss the minutia of Fagan's brilliance(wink and a nod). Fuck them and their Chardonay sipping picadillos. I would have felt more at home had I brought a picnic basket full of Brie,Chabliss, and Water Crackers. Pretenious snob fans! Howe anyone can really dig Steely Dan anyway? Bunch of fucking snobby jazz fucktards that they are!

Yeah well surely you are aware that that is the same nation that gave us the likes of Rush,BTO,and Gordon Lightfoot. Their musical tastes leave much to be desired.

Bring the Dixie Sluts down south and see how well they sell.
