In all seriousness Rik, who cares about the set-lists anymore....they are basically all the same...it amuses me how we post the set list and it's always the same...give or take 2-3 songs.... |

JB, you're right
it's all an act, if you see more shows, you SHOULD see that! just the clubs are about the music, I've heard a rumour about a small scale tour in about 2 years, JUST a rumour, but you never know.
Mark send me some more SMS, and he said, it isn't a good show.
I really think, and from what some friends told me that, the US leg was far better then the Euro leg of the tour, so I can understand some people, who didn't see some Euro-shows that we are TOO critical, but it's true, you saw the best ronnie....

Here's a question, maybe it's been asked before... does it bother anyone else when they play "hits" on the B-stage? I always thought the idea of the B-stage was to play lesser-known, older, or more stripped-down numbers. I think they got it right on Bridges to Babylon, when they did things like The Last Time, Little Queenie, Crazy Mama and, later on (No Security), Midnight Rammbler, Route 66, Just My Imagination, etc.
Oh, well... we've gotten some good ones, nonetheless. |
|
BillyBoll |
OK I know its all on here now but just to fulfil my contractual obligation to Gazza. The rest:
Honky Tonk Woman
Little Red Rooster - B stage
Street Fighting Man - B stage
Brown Sugar - B stage
JJF - encore
Note from Gazza - "One of the best EVER. A fuckin barnstormer"
So there you go.... |
|
voodoopug |
well said, couldnt agree more, but i love whatever they play out there....would be nice if they kept it to the lesser known ones like respectable, starfucker, mannish boy, rooster, stray cat, etc |

You bet it bothers me...it's a waste of perfectly good b-stage time to play BS, SFM there. Remember '97 when it was up for grabs (not exactly open for offers, mind you) on the b-stage with the likes of The Last Time, Crazy Mama...not to mention the greatest song of the tour - Little Queenie. Not nearly as vital these days.... |

Yeah, despite IORR and Let It Bleed during B2B and Whip during No Security, the B stage should be less played tunes! |
|
Child of the Moon |
In the case of the B-stage, I could understand things like Let It Bleed, because it's a more acoustic-based number. I know they already did a sort of acoustic mini-set thing on Voodoo Lounge, but the B-stage would be just as effective if they played stuff like No Expectations or other acoustic-based things. In fact, they should've pulled out something like Prodigal Son... THAT would have brought the house down!
The B-stage, to me, should include numbers that follow one or more of these guidelines:
A) Older numbers, not necessarily obscure, but things that you would have seen the Stones do on a small stage in 1965. i.e. 19th Nervous Breakdown, The Last Time, etc.
B) Stripped-down rock 'n' roll and/or blues numbers, be they covers or originals. i.e. Little Queenie, Neighbours, Little Red Rooster, etc.
C) Acoustic-based tunes, in the vein of the mini-sets on Voodoo Lounge. See above.
But I'm nitpicking. To have the boys up there, healthy, and performing... that's what counts. |

Oh I don't mind if they play hits on the B-stage, Brown sugar was the best version I've ever heard on the B-stage in Bercy

Josh, I really think at their age they can not keep up the level of excitment they had at the beginning of the tour. When all is said and done, I'm sure the US leg will be much more highly regarded than all the other legs. At this stage in their lives, I really don't think they can stand to be together for this long. I have read many more reports of them having bad nights than early on. I think some short smaller venue tours are in the future. If any at all. SS talk of Vegas being a big temptation and I think that is true. Elton John just signed up to do a few months I think at one of the Casino's. Wanna go?
Now, Jeff Beck is another story. His new CD "Jeff" is an amazing offering from a guy of the same era. His playing is ferocious and alive. Maybe more alive than at any point in his career. If you are in the mood for something different, I highly suggest you go buy it. It's new music they way it ought to be.
Your pal,
Macky! |

Lots of moans again from people who werent there - interesting. Don't worry folks,in a couple of months from now you'll have NO setlists to bitch about from thousands of miles away so everything will obviously be much better! Christ knows what this would have been like had the internet been invented in the early 70's - the only variations we'd have had in 1973 would have been to post whether they played "Heartbreaker" or "Dancing with Mr D".
For me,this was almost up there with Astoria and Wembley #1 as the best of the UK shows. Great atmosphere (surprisingly for london) the whole crowd were up and dancing from first note 'til last. Sound was excellent, apart from one very odd moment during "if you cant rock me" when Darryl's bass solo got so loud it threatened to break the sound barrier. "Dont Stop" has progressed from a so-so new song a year ago to an outstanding concert piece, "Dead Flowers" was a lovely surprise - great to see Keith on backing vocals (it doesnt happen enough) and "Rooster" on the b-stage was delightful. Mick made a bit of a bollocks of the second verse of "Street fighting man" but apart from that,I thought they were practically flawless. Keith's pair of songs were as good as they've ever been, "Happy" being especially wonderful - Keith got so into it that when they brought the song to a close, he just started it up again and they blasted out another chorus. "Paint It Black..." - lost for words again. Its THE crowd pleaser EVERY night now. When Keith played that intro, the place just erupted and during that little pause before Charlie starts that drum intro, the sound of 11,000 pairs of feet stamping on the floor sounded like an earthquake.
This is my last show of this tour. If its the last one I ever see, at least I can say they went out on a high. The best tour I've ever seen the Stones do (I've seen them in '82, '90, '95, '98, '99 (No security), '99 (Europe) and '02 (US) before this one) - so I think (for a change) I might know what I'm talking about.
