In late April of 1977 I rode overnight from L.A. to Phoenix on Amtrak's Sunset Limited. A scruffy-looking guy came into the coach, apparently from an adjoining sleeper, to talk to a conductor in the aisle. I heard him say (in hushed tones) "I'm traveling with two-three members of the Rolling Stones, and when we get to New Orleans, how can I get them off the train without everyone seeing us?"
At the time I wasn't a fan, but it seemed to me New Orleans would be a place they'd be likely to visit, although the train (even the private sleeping car accomodations) seemed like an odd choice. Or, the guy could have been delusional. I always wondered how he got his total of "two-three" members of the band? (Maybe that's two of the famous ones, and somebody else.)
Does anyone know if there was such a visit?
