was browsing in a second store the other day and picked up two albums i didn't have on CD (and so haven't really heard in years)which are now getting a work out in the car:
CBS release of Dirty Work - particularly after many here (well nasty habits and Maxlugar) have consistently sung its praises
the title track - fight -had it with you - sleep tonight - one hit - these are great tracks - not to mention the little sample of stu doing "key to the highway"
also "Talk is Cheap" -it's great to "rediscover' such tracks as "You Just don't move me", "how I wish", "I could have stood you up" and "Locked away" |

Yep, got Amoeba too. Found out about it at the last minute. I was scheduled to work til 6:30 but was able to sneak out at 4:30. Ran (!literally!) home to get my stuff then ran back to the bus stop. I wasnt able to get any closer than near the back so it didnt come out as good as the Henry Fonda show.
I also did Tanya Donnelly last night. Just 3 acoustic guitars and a piano. The no chattering policy at Largo means I was able to hang on every word without being distracted by whats going on around me. I really want to go back tonight but probably wont be able to swing it. |

I always wanted to do Tanya Donnely.
Currently: Stones - Sydney '73
Wapadang smokin' goddam. Love that Indian scream in the middle of Midnight Rambler.
Earlier: Vernon Garrett: My Own World -- great 60s soul CD on ACE.
Much earlier this morning: Dylan -- Phantoms Of My Youth, Disc 2. You know, I kinda like the '74 tour....

Tossing around looking for Gap Band albums I knew I had once. Somewhere in there I decided I had already gone through this ridiculous drunken exercise before, and it was all negatory and thats why I had bought Gap Gold in the first fucking place.
So....tossing around looking for Gap Gold.....
Its there! Mongo!
What a fucking groove those guys had. Buh buh buh baaaahhhh nahhhhhh nahhhhh, buh buh buh, bahhhhhhh nahhhh nahhhhh... Everybody on the floor! All aboard! Don't miss the party train!
Thats some bad shit. Bad it is. Is o' bad.

Making a compilation for a Mid-western lad who's never heard John Prine - so of course his early stuff, late 70's & early 80's; Doug Kershaw, Dr. John - for that NOLA flair; George Thorogood, Monster Magnet to honour the Mid-Atlantic region, and a little Incredible String Band thrown in for good measure.
Keep on rockin' in the USA! |

Some Rick James, because his death conjured it up.
But all night, been listening to the Doors' first "The Doors." Never been a big supporter, but that really is a damn fine album full of audacious rocking tunes. |
