VoodooChileInWOnderl You don't need to go too far to get some samples of groupies singing and with some stones content

If you go to our Nicky Hopkins space, in the AUDIO SAMPLES you will be able to download and play two tracks of the GTO's

In the tracks Brian Jones and Mick jagger are mentioned you're gonna laugh or at least smile with this one produced by Frank Zappa. Woody is not here for an unknown reason as the Jeff Beck Group recorded this with the Mothers and the GTO's (Girls Together Outrageously)

This is an excerpt from the Nicky Hopkins space at Rocks Off, with authorization and thanks to a Voodoo boy overthere

Track 1 and Track 2

Tracks are Rodney / The Ghost Chained To The Past, Present, And Future (Shock Treatment) /
Love On An Eleven Year Old Level / combined!

Above tracks come from the album "Permanent Damage" by the GTOs (Girls Together Outrageously).
This is a band of groupies produced by Frank Zappa.

Nicky Hopkins - Piano
GTOs - Vocals (Misses Pamela, Sandra, Cinderella, Christine, and Mercy (Pamela Des Barres)
Rod Stewart - Vocals
Jeff Beck - Guitar
Frank Zappa - Tambourine and spiritual guidance
Mother Don Preston - Synthesizer
Mother Roy Estrada - Bass
Mother Jimmy Carl Black (The indian of the group) - Drums
Mother Ian Underwood - Keyboards

Grace is the SUPER GROUPIE of all time. That is no minor accomplishement. Has been ....maybe.....but she still defines what a groupie is and should be. Besides she looked good. Why the Airplane let her front the band is beyond me, but they did.....and the rest is history.

TTM, How familiar are you with Grace's songwriting? "Eskimo Blue Day" and "Lather" are two of the Airplane's best songs. Have you heard "Greasy Heart"? And Grace was no groupie. You'd be closer if you said Spencer Dryden and Paul Kantner were Grace's groupies.

Taptrick Voodoo: Do you have a pic of Devon Wilson? I was going to paste it up here with the word to Dolly Dagger but can't find a pic of Devon online.

Here comes, dolly dagger
Her love so heavy gonna make you stagger
Dolly dagger
She drinks the blood from a jagged edge
Ah, drink up baby

Been ridin' broomsicks since she was fifteen
Blow out all the other witches on the scene
She got a bull whip just as long as your life
Her tong can even scratch the soul out of the devil's wife

Well, i seen her in action at the players choice
Turn all the love men into donut boys
Hey red hot momma, you'd better step aside
This chick's gonna turn you to a block of ice
Look out

Here comes, dolly dagger
Her love so heavy gonna make you stagger baby
Dolly dagger
She drinks the blood from a jagged edge
Right on
Drink up baby
Hey!

Yeah, look at old burnt out superman
Tryin' to shoot his dust on the sun
Captain comic is the man on the run
On the words of love
Do they ever touch dolly brown
Better get in some highway and clear outta town

Here comes dolly dagger
Her love's so heavy, gonna make you stagger
Dolly dagger
She ain't satisfied 'til she get what she's after
She drinks the blood from the jagged edge
Look out baby here comes your master
Alright
Watch out Devon
Gimme a little bit of that heaven

Dolly heavy mama
Get it on get it on get it on

At what point are you crossing the line? I mean at what point does a female fan become a groupie?

This issue is the topic of Frank Zappa and the Mothers' live album, "Fillmore East--June 1971."
"Don't call us groupies, that is going too far.
We wouldn't ball you just because you're a star."

VoodooChileInWOnderl Lyrics of the tracks I gave you

We see you at [Wallicks] and down at The Ranch Market
Waiting for pop stars to casually stroll by
Oh, Rodney, if you introduce me to Mick Jagger
I'll let you meet my little sister
She's only twelve years old!

I see all the people I want to see
I be all the people I want to be
And find all the treasures I want to find
Along with the images, they 're so unkind

Shock treatment, oh let me go-oh
Shock treatment, oh let me go-oh
Shock treatment, oh let me go-oh
Shock treatment, oh let me go-oh

What does his mother say when we kiss on the doorstep?
(He has to be home by ten)
I wait around 'til three o 'clock 'til he comes out of school
He flirts with all the ten year olds
And I'm so jealous I could die
(He just screams Brian Jones!)
Brian Jones! Do you realize this eleven year old kid looks like Brian Jones?
(He just screams Brian Jones!)
A kiss on the cheek would be enough
But when he does more . . . wah! wah!
He has captured my heart . . . Bart
I'm ready to settle down
Do you think your parents would let you quit school at 16?
It's only five years.
I can wait.
He is the ladies man
How could you doubt him, even when he lies?
When he says he's out playing ball
He's being a two-timing man
He has captured my heart . . . Bart
Oh, how he wrinkles my dress and tangles my hair!
(Get in there, Bart!)
Sneak out your window and I'll meet you tonight
And you'll be back in time for school
When we're together, am I eleven or are you nineteen?
He has captured my heart . . . Bart
You 're a heartbreaker, Bart Baker.

FotiniD The term "Groupies" has grown to include a lot of offensive content for the girls (and boys!) involved, imo... I like the "Almost Famous" version of a "groupie" best and especially the definition given by Sapphire (Fairuza Balk) when she compares the older generation of groupies with the new one:

"They don't even know what it is to be a fan. Y'know? To truly love some silly little piece of music, or some band, so much that it hurts.

I've always wanted to write a thesis on the groupie phenomenon but I never made it to university, sadly.

The psychology of it all - and I'm not talking about the simple one-night-stands, but what actually leads a person to love a musician so much; the effect she / he can have on that musician and the effect the musician has on her / him. I think it's basically cause musicians mostly have the "tormented soul" image that lures people who like them to actually want to protect them, take care for them.

Like, in the Cocksucker Blues video, the scene where Keith blanks out and rests in the lap of a groupie and she caresses his hair. The exhausted drugged out rocker and the girl who takes care of him after the gig. I'm a sucker for stuff like that

Yeah, I know that for most cases it was a lot less complicated and "romantic" than that, but I like the complicated stuff best

You have to hand it to the Stones - at least they didn't date groupies. They may have fucked them, but they are really nothing different than hired help, with no payment. I guess that gets around the child labor laws.

Lori Maddox was 14 years old when Jimmy Page started having sex with her. Shades of Ted Nugent, and Bill Wyman as you pointed out.

I don't understand why they all haven't been incarcerated. And irrespective, just damn odd behavior for grown men. Some fricking weird complex. Or something.
