cabledogg2 I've seen several threads on how many shows people have seen. I thought it would be interesting to see who has seen the earliest show? Maybe back in the UK club days?......Scott

Honky Tonk Man stewed & Keefed saw the Stones at the Rochester Odeon on the 1st November 1963. They played there a few times, but i think that's the date he saw them.

throbby stewed & Keefed, can you share with us some memories of the show?
09-05-03 08:47 AM
gimmekeef My first show was in the afternoon in Toronto in 1972.They played 2 shows one in the afternoon one at night. Was at both after waiting 3 days in line for tickets. This was before Ticketbastard was even around.Stevie Wonder opened and they charged $7.50 Canadian per ticket.Sounds crazy but at that time no one had charged over $5!!!!..Guess I'm dating myself.......By the way those 2 shows still stick in my mind even after I have seen about 30 since.

throbby Hey Nellcote! How was that '72 show? What's the difference, if any, compared to today?
09-05-03 05:26 PM
Nellcote Hey there.....
Slash & Burn in '72 as opposed the fairly scripted arena/stadiums of today. The Stones were in charge, compared to they now look to Chuck for support. I'm not knocking the Chuck factor of today, when you look at the years they've been touring, wear & tear on the band, etc.
As I witnessed one year ago today, Chuck does help hold it together, which a band such as The Stones of today has to have.

Keith was possessed in those days, now, especially on some of the show stopper numbers, ie Rambler, Rip This Joint. If he had distractions, you never knew it. It was the music, he buried his head into it. SFM was the highlight for myself, as it never seemed to end. Large mirror streching the length of the stage, which had spotlights hitting it during SFM. As Keith pushed the groove, Jagger wildly moving, the mirror swung, faster, faster, it was wicked pissa! The side players all held there own, Nicy Hopkins was part of the gig in a grand way. That night they seemed at ease, as opposed to the night prior, the famous arrest incident w/the photographer, where there was a near riot in Boston given the delay in the Stones arriving. Hard to think of that type of event even happening now....

I recall the question being bantered around would they play Sympathy, for the cloud which hung over them from Altamont, this being the first US Tour since that event. If I am correct, it did not reappear until '75.

Anyway, that's by recollection. We did not win the lottery for tix that year, had a promoter contact who worked in the town I lived in, who knew the Stones people, got the tix the day of the show. It was, still is a watershed moment for my first ever concert all those years ago
