we have - more than once.

for the record, microgaps do NOT necessarily indicate lossy encoding in the lineage. microgaps DO indicate that somebody ripped the CD incorrectly, or burned it incorrectly, but this does not, inandofitself(sic), mean that the WAV data has been compressed with lossy encoding. this (microgaps beween tracks) generally happens when the source is a CD-R with an unknown generation...

which is why...

ideally, all sources would be lossless, and ripped properly from the original SILVER CDs, or seeded directly from the taper (no DAE in the lineage at all)...

Its my source, never before circulated.

But its not moving and I can't figure out whats wrong.

mac_daddy are you connected as a seed..? the tracker shows two torrents, and neither of them have a seed...

my guess is that you pointed to the wrong dir (it is confusing)...

close your bit torrent client.

go to the tracker, and download the torrent file from there. use the one with 13 peers...

open that torrent up, and it will ask you to pick a location for your files...

+++ you must pick the PARENT dir, not the flacf +++

so if your flac files are located in c:\my documents\forum3606\, then you would select c:\my documents as the location for the files...

the program then should start checking your files. this takes a few minutes, but you will see the harddrive running...

if, instead of checking your files, it immediately starts to try and download, then you have not pointed to the right place, and you are not connected as a seed...

It's nothing personal but, your explanation is exactly why I did not want to post the "mp3-source warning" when Craig told me. In fact, I decided not to post any more "MP3-sourced warnings" anymore. I think people doesn't know how to distinguish a lossless from a lossy source, not even with a clearly frequency and spectral analysis I posted before:

http://img106.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rs19720715t03stonedagainfrequencyanalysissv4.jpg

http://img106.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rs19720715t03stonedagainspectralviewqs6.jpg

http://img106.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rs19720715t03stonedagaingapbeginningqy8.jpg

http://img106.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rs19720715t03stonedagaingapendgr2.jpg

I only downloaded 3 torrents from the man in question, the 3 of them where lossy, I gave up.
"I have had this cd with a trade I DONT KNOW THE SOURCE IS MP3 SORRY."
13th August 2006 01:05 PM
mac_daddy you are correct - spectral analysis is the way to tell, definitively...

i have not downloaded the filesets in question...

i was just making a comment, to be clear on all of this, that microgaps are not always a tel-tale for mp3 in the lineage; they are tell-tales of other things, but not necessarily of mp3 lineage...

and if you are speaking to me, there was never any offense taken, you and i are saying the same thing...

13th August 2006 01:09 PM
mac_daddy one more thing just popped to mind...

just so y'all know...

taking mp3s, and making them into a CD, and then ripping that CD to WAV, and then compressing WAV > FLAC - this is NOT a lossless source, and sources with this kind of lineage should NOT be seeded on the RO tracker. ever.

i guess a good rule of thumb would be, if you are not 100% sure of the complete lineage of the audio, then dont seed it here...

there are plenty of mp3 stones sites - start a thread about it on ro, you will get plenty of responses. the ro tracker is NOT for lossy sources, nor is it for sources with lossy encoding in the lineage...

06. Jumpin´ Jack Flash
07. Street Fighting Man
08. Uptight/Satisfaction (with Stevie Wonder)

Notes/Quality:

This previously unavailable source has been rumoured for years.

There is another source for this show out there which I posted on STG two years ago: "Five Englishmen Spend A Day In A New York Garden", a 3CD set which also includes the afternoon show and was kindly sent to me by the taper himself, Mr. darth9neo.

This new source sounds better (particularly during the first few songs) but is less complete: "All Down The Line" is missing. A performance of the song from another concert (July 25 (1st show)) has been inserted to make it sound like a complete show. The missing song and its replacement with another performance from a different show is not mentioned anywhere on the artwork. The bootleggers probably thought noone would notice but TornAndFrayed noticed it right away during his first listen.
I don´t know why the original performance wasn´t included. Maybe the song wasn´t recorded or there were problems with the original tape source.

Pauli DAC has also released July 25, 1972 (2nd show) recently. The name of the CD is "The Great Lost Live Album". I was planning to upload it today, but I think I pass it now. There is no reason to seed two version of the same concert.

Anyone interested in this:

Feel free to upload yours as well. I haven´t heard the DAC version, yet but I have always wanted to compare it with the SM bootleg I´m seeding. Maybe the DAC release is an upgrade.
Do you know if the DAC bootleg uses the same source recording as the SM release? Have they inserted the correct performance of "All Down The Line"?
