Ten Thousand Motels BEATLES TRACK NAMED BEST BRITISH SONG

THE BEATLES hit A DAY IN THE LIFE has been named the Best British Song of all time, by a magazine poll.

Music experts, quizzed by Q Magazine, chose the track over THE KINKS' WATERLOO SUNSET, and OASIS' WONDERWALL - which occupied second and third places respectively.

They hailed A Day In The Life, "The ultimate sonic rendition of what it means to be British."

JOHN LENNON described the 1967 song, after its release as "a sound building up from nothing to the end of the world".

The top ten is as follows:

1. A DAY IN THE LIFE - THE BEATLES

2. WATERLOO SUNSET - THE KINKS

3. WONDERWALL - OASIS

4. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN - SEX PISTOLS

5. BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY - QUEEN

6. MY GENERATION - THE WHO

7. ANGELS - ROBBIE WILLIAMS

8. LIFE ON MARS? - DAVID BOWIE

9. SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL - ROLLING STONES

10. UNFINISHED SYMPATHY - MASSIVE ATTACK.

The Wick The list is a joke. Any list that has Robbie Take That Williams on it, isn't worth the paper it was written on.

Voodoo Scrounge Bo Rap is a classic. I think it gets ranked to highly all too often, but it does deserve to be on this list

It's imo the biggest peace of shit ever composed!

Gazza I think the whole point of the poll was to pick songs that typified Britishness in music.."national anthems" as such

Who cares? Its another pointless space-filling poll by an increasingly pointless magazine

They'll probably have another one with a similar title in about 3 months time

And "A Day In The Life" isnt a bad choice. Its the best song The Beatles ever did.

Gazza ..and actually it WASNT a poll of "music experts" as ContactMusic seem to suggest. Theres no indication WHO were actually asked for their opinion

In all likelihood, it was probably a result of a few lunchtime drinks by Q staff who were looking for something to fill a few pages in a magazine and, as a result, get some publicity.

Which seems to work every month!

Interesting. Never heard of music polls being labelled by country of origin. Fuckin' Canadians...
