Topic: A very young Mick Taylor in the new DVD by John Mayall ??? Return to archive
August 31st, 2004 11:23 AM
VoodooChileInWOnderl John Mayall is better known for the musicians he mentored over the years than the music he produced himself. The DVD “The Godfather of British Blues” does a decent job of documenting Mayall’s impact on rock and blues music in the 1960s and 70s, with protegees like Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood and Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor all chiming in. The film’s finale is Mayall’s 70th birthday performance.

Mayall’s high-pitched, nasal delivery hasn’t worn particularly well over the years but the DVD will interest those who fondly remember the ’60s blues scene. The bonus is a short black and white documentary of Mayall’s Turning Point band, a drumless acoustic unit from 1969 that put out Mayall’s most famous song, “Room to Move.” Unfortunately, that song is not included in the film, which on the whole is dull and unfocused.

jpenn11 Voodoo,

I think I read this has a minute or so of Taylor playing Parchman Farm (maybe without synchronized sound) and maybe a brief interview, but otherwise no Taylor. Have you watched it and, if so, can you confirm this?

Thanks!
