I have had this scene in my mind from July...
All dark in the stadium... then the sound of the opening guitar notes of Paint it Black ring out...then the pause before the drums (a few seconds longer than usual) Then: Spot light hits Charlie ONLY as his opening beats bang the stadium's roof off... as Keith joins back in, the full stage lights bang on with mick racing in and the full band forging foward.
Oh man that would be perfect... What do you think? |

I've wanted Paint It Black as the opener forever. Another option is to go for something people aren't expecting. The greatest opener ever for me was Not Fade Away. Maybe a really rocking Rip This Joint or something from the really early days. |

the Show intro, and after that: BITCH ! Keith Comes up, playing the dirty and nasty Riff, Charlie very tight and mick is running from left to right on the stage, ronnie is jumping in the stage with his eyes closed, in his own world, smoking and drinking, bobby keys is playing his lungs out! Let's rock and roll!!!! |

Sympathy For The Devil is my pick, although the Paint It Black scenario above sounds cool too. |

Start Me Up!
But if you look at the rehearsal setlist from 8/8/05 on IORR, it seems as though Sympathy was in the running as set opener.
(The "blues" is likely Back Of My Hand?)
This has been a full day running through a complete set of songs. Not just testing out individual songs, but also running through the songs back-to-back. What a great set of songs rehearsed tonight!
Sympathy For The Devil
You Got Me Rocking
Shattered
Tumbling Dice
Rough Justice
Memory Motel
Beast Of Burden
Heartbreaker
Blues
All Down The Line
Infamy (Keith) x 2
Paint It Black
Miss You
Oh No, Not You Again
Satisfaction
Out Of Control
Start Me Up
Jumping Jack Flash (with applause from the outside fans)
Brown Sugar
You Can't Always Get What You Want
