Soldatti ONE DAY SALES: A BIGGER BANG BANGS

Next Week Should Be All About The Stones...Almost

September 7, 2005

Much like the Elvis of yore, The Rolling Stones have been everywhere these past several weeks—and it looks like it’s paying off, since next week’s sales should be all about the Stones... almost. And we say almost only because the mighty Kanye West promises to continue his mightiness next week, with a shoo-in for the #1 spot again. West's album is on track to sell another 350-400k this week.

It looks like Mick, Keef and the other dudes should hit around 150k as of next week with their new Virgin release, A Bigger Bang. That should probably be good enough to put the “boys” in the #2 slot, right behind Professor West’s Late Registration, which, again, should have no problem whatsoever hitting the top spot. And since Kanye recently expressed his support of our current Commander-in-Chief—and since the Stones have done something similar, with their track, “Sweet Neo Con” on the new album—we’re thinking this might prove to be a development that the White House can get strongly behind. (Is a rebirth of the P.R.M.C. waiting in the wings?)

Next week’s only real competition will be a new 50 Cent CD reissue. The new G-Unit/Interscope release will repackage the rapper’s best-selling debut album with several new tracks and a DVD. We’re predicting sales of around 125k—which might be enough for 50 Cent to nab the #2 spot... but it seems unlikely.

SUMMARY - Tuesday sales:
1. Kanye West (58,000)
2. Rolling Stones (29,000)
3. 50 Cent (20,000)

pdog 50 Cent is a bust!

Soldatti A Bigger Bang it's on the average of the previous studio albums:
Voodoo Lounge: debut at #2 with 154,000
Bridges To Babylon: debut at #3 with 160,000

Forty Licks sold 310,000 copies the first week, showing a lot of casual people buying the old songs.

corgi37 I like to keep up with things through my step-kids, but who the fuck is Kanye West? All i read yesterday was something he said about New Orleans.

And to think. I used to like "colored" music.

But, then, they were cool in those days. Temptations, 4 Tops, Marvin Gaye, Mr. Marcus, F.M. Bradley, Long Dong Silver.

exile rap music sucks
September 7th, 2005 08:46 PM
Mel Belli I understand Virgin's initial shipment was 1.9 million copies, which now seems over-optimistic.
September 7th, 2005 08:48 PM
ThatsWhatISay Thats's really a setback for our boys...only 150k units sold??? WTF? This is their first release since 8 years of studio absence!! I'm really sad about this lack of support...
I guess we all overestimated their selling power. These days it's up to the afro-american hiphop garbage to conquer the charts. I think ABB will once again be an average 2xplatinum album. :-(

Well, maybe the record is just not good enough to prevail at #1 in the charts.

QUOTE OF THE CENTURY!!! RIGHT ON!!! STONES RULE!!!!!
September 7th, 2005 09:02 PM
jb I predicted this.....I said the album would not even hit 170.....we have been humiliated again. 29k on the First day is almost proportionately as bad as GITDW.......this will not hit the 1 mil mark domestically . Such low figures with all the 5 star reviews, NFL co-sponsoring , etc....back to reality for us die hards-they never have sold that well and this is very disappointing. Some of you were predicting 250k first week!!!LMAO............Remember , 40 Licks only sold 2.3 million and that apppealed to the most casual of fan..this is a complete and utter embarrassment.

Buck up, campers. "Good" records don't often prevail on the charts these days. If this back-to-earth revelation proves anything, it's the increasing irrelevance of the press. Makes me fear for my livelihood - not that I have much of one anyhow!

jb We have really hit the bottom of the barrel as far as record sales...I just don't get it..2-3 million people see them on tour and we can't sell over 150k units on their first release in 8 yrs.....very sad. I am back to being negative and depressed.........

2x Platinum? are you kidding?
B2B sold 1,160,000 copies since 1997 and they had three US Top 15 rock radio hits that year, RJ barely reached the Top 25 this time. A Bigger Bang will sell between 800k-1 millon in US. A number #2 debut with so low numbers is a great gift, Kanye West is #1 also in the Hot 100 while the Stones single got almost zero support in the radio.
At least the chance for UK #1 is strong and that's an incredible achievement.

unlike here
No tour
Next to no airplay
yet probably a #1 album, which is selling proportionally much better than it is in the US

Bloozehound It's all about the video these dayz, Kanye Wests all over the video tv channels and radio getting the exposure

where the hell would you even see a music video for groups like the Stones nowdays, Mtv's nothing but hiphop, reality tv and Bam Margera

I've only yet to hear one of the new songs on the radio locally, BOMH, and it was on a "college" radio station

Yep:

1- The people is interested in rap music (West & Carey among MANY MANY MANY others) and alternative rock (Green Day, Foo Fighters). The MAINSTREAM ROCK music is dead for the buying people.

2- The people only wants the Stones old songs, on records (40 Licks or Jump Back) and in concert. The Stones' fans keeps the high debuts on the charts, but the new album is out of the Top 40 after 2-3 weeks.
If ABB debuts #1 in UK, it will drop like a stone the next week, in US the same and worldwide. I say that the 50-55% of the total sales for ABB will be during the first week.

I will be happy with 1 million in US and 3 worldwide!
What casual fan will buy the new album if it's available on the internet and worse, in the Stones official site!!!!!!!!!!!
You can download the mp3's in good quality with the Net Transport!
I've seen many people in other music forums downloading for free the album in the RS.com site!
This people (Virgin/RS.com) are a bunch of morons.

corgi37 I know most of you are racialists, being anti-Aussie and all that (we'll win the Ashes tonight!), but come on, answer me.

Who the fuck is the West guy?

Jumping Jack Are copies looted in New Orleans counted in Kayne West's sales totals?

Well, as a "racialistist" Kanye West is a dumb ass nigga who sells some Christian oriented rap crap & was on the cover of TIME as "Rap's Smartest Man?" the same week he made a nearly incoherent speech about the New Orleans travesty. If he's rap's smartest, there's no future for rap.
September 8th, 2005 09:38 AM
gimmekeef One problem is the packaging. There is no red tongue or anything descriptive on the front to let the casual buyer even know who it is.The big light in the middle even hides the faces. The print is so small you need a magnifying glass to read what is inside. If Virgin shipped that many copies they sure screwed up on making it accessible. But we knew some rapper would be number one anyway.....
September 8th, 2005 09:39 AM

Moonisup The stones are much bigger in Europe then in the US, not a lot are taking the stones serious as an album producing band, but when they releas, it reaches most of the time higher numbers then in the USA, mainly because rap and that stuff ain't that big over here. It's growing however!

when I see that numbers: big difference between spot 1 and 2! Very big. but wich band releases a single without a video. Pretty dumb
