Nellcote This exercise is similar to being asked for my zipcode at a store for "marketing purposes".
It gets under my skin like a sharp metallic shard.
And I always give 90210.
Otherwise, my opinion is for sale.
Just Let Me Down Slow....
Oh, about the topic....
I view the Stones like a good shampoo.
Lather, rinse, repeat.

Otherwise, it's Rough Justice for ya........

A Bigger Bang needs a few years to fester before any kind of accurate ranking can be given. Although, from listening to the songs on the website, I would put it somewhere between 4-6. Blooze, Texile, what are yours?

September 7th, 2005 03:03 PM
texile i like the grooves on abb - very raw - but with the exception of dangerous beauty...lyrically its just not interesting; i think that's the problem for me - its a collection of great grooves but i don't know how timeless abb will be as a collection of SONGS....
emotional rescue
tattoo you
undercover
the rest are all one movement of mediocrity with a few gems: sad, sad, sad, slipping away etc....

Stripped/Bridges to Babylon (yet another tie!)

Too early to rank A Bigger Bang, since all rankings are dependent on what the album conjures up- as opposed to any type of critical analysis.

Back To Zero (Jagger/Richards/Leavell)

Back to zero
So you wanna blow us all to pieces?
Go meet your maker, head hung down
And give him all your explanations
Go ahead, throw down
Back to zero, back to nothing
Straight to meltdown, back to zero
That's where we're heading

It's a monkey living on my back
I can feel my spine begin to crack
I'm looking to the future
I keep on glancing back
I prefer to rot
I don't want to pop

I think I'll head back to the jungle, alright
Don't want to see no big bad rumble, too fright
Back to zero, that's where we're going
Back to nothing, right now, right now
No heroes? No more heroes
Back to meltdown
That's where I'm going, back to zero

My whole life is hanging on a thread
I'm the fly inside the spider's web
I'm looking to the future
I keep on glancing back
I prefer to rot
I don't want to pop

I worry about my great grandchildren
Living ten miles beneath the ground
I worry about their whole existence
The whole damn thing's in doubt
Back to zero, that's where we're going
Back to nothing, that's where we're heading
Straight to meltdown, that's where we're going
Back to zero, right now, right now

We're going nowhere
Right now, right now
Back to zero, that's where we're heading
Back to zero

I'm surprised more don't like B2B as much as I do. It has it all: killer rockers (Flip The Switch, Out Of Control), some innovative sounds that resemble nothing they've ever done (Gunface, Might As Well Get Juiced), sold Keith vocal numbres (Thief, Mean It, Stop), chanting (Too Tight), even the weaker numbers like Lowdown have nasty guitars. THIS album is the best since 1980.

i recently had the pleasure of rediscovering
dirty work. well half of it anyway, the other half
was more a question of skipping.

It ain't that bad really;
one hit, dirty work, had it with you, sleep tonight...

I agree wicha! It's lowest in my rankings, but it's definitely got some cool individual tracks, basically the ones you named. The bad numbers make the album almost unlistenable in full sequence, but I throw on One Hit occasionally and always dig it.
