At the risk of really pissing some people off: I think Brian's influence on the band has always been over rated. I know he formed the band, named the band, got them gigs, etc, but some people turn the guy into a quasi religious figure, and like all such figures, they grant him powers and influence that he did not posses. A great musician yes, but Mick and Keith were the musical engine that drove the Stones, even in the early days, in my opinion. |

Fair enough, but it's a fact, and keith and Mick have said it many times, that Brian was the leader and most commited person in the band in the very early sixties. He did all the crappy work no one else wanted to do and promoted the band very well when they needed it the most. We all know the life and downfall of Brian Jones, must we drag on about it? He got the band off to a great start and was an amazing intrumentalist. We're certainly not giving him the same credit Mick and Keith get, no one's that brainless. But let's give the founder of the Rolling Stones the credit he does deserve.
As a huge Brian fan, one thing that pisses me off is people who fail to realize that at the time of his death, he had cleaned up his act and given up on drugs and all that stuff. Don't you think he deserves a little respect there?
