Ok...time for some action on this
the important thing is now that we get this booked. A lot of people want to go to Sticky Fingers which is an obvious place for Stones fans to congregate when in london. Its also very central and reasonably priced.
What i think we should do is check availability and we can always change plans once we come to some kind of agreement.
A few minutes ago,I booked Sticky Fingers for a group of twenty people for the evening of Tuesday 26th August. I'm waiting on a confirmation e-mail from them.
Right now,I have no idea how many of you are intending on joining us that evening but I had to put a ballpark amount here. I'm sure I can amend it once we get definite numbers. Its important we get everything sorted in the next week or 10 days because a lot of people are flying off soon for concerts and maybe not all of us will have internet access to the same degree that we have at home.
If, between all of us, we end up deciding to go somewhere else (and I realise Talya is checking out a place in the next couple of days) thats fine by me. We can vote on it. If between us we decide we want somewhere else, its no problem to me to cancel Sticky Fingers. The important thing is that we have options and dont leave this to the last minute.
Even if the bar area is small, SF is also in a busy enough location just off Kensington High Street and theres bars nearby where you can go beforehand before getting there for you meal which is provisionally booked for 7.30 pm.
As far as I'm aware, Martha's been e-mailing or PM'ing some of you to check on what suits. best thing to do now is for you to confirm with her AS SOON AS POSSIBLE that you're available on that evening either by PM or e-mail (Martha's e-mail address is [email protected]) or you can contact myself on [email protected]. Please remember also to let us know if youre bringing anyone else with you for the dinner (wives,husbands whatever) so we can confirm how many seats we need. PLEASE dont leave this to the last minute.
Another reminder to to those of you who havent posted in this thread that you're very welcome to join us. It's not some 'clique' or anything as most of us who have bounced ideas off each other on this thread have never even met each other either. So don't be shy. The more the merrier. |

I am on a rota system at work, so hopefully i will be off on that day. I can't book a day off as i am out of leave. 7.30 sounds like a good time, though if i am working, it would mean me killing a couple of hours first.
But i want to make clear that i am DEFINATELY going to make this gathering. Wetherspoons was just a suggestion. And i know that the one i frequent is okay. Gazza you are right though, when you say it lacks "atmesphere" I will agree on that.

Sounds good! I'm sure some of us could hook up there for a few jars beforehand (we can arrange all that in due course) , although as I'm sure you can appreciate the important thing is to get somewhere well in advance that can take a reasonably large party of us for a meal as we cant exactly just drop in en masse!!
Anyway, I got a phone call back from Sticky Fingers today to confirm we're OK for the evening of Tuesday the 26th at 7.30 pm and they also e-mailed me a special menu which is used for large parties (its a bit more limited than the ordinary a la carte menu but hopefully should still be sufficient) - I've copied and pasted it below.
I explained to them that its a get together for a group of Stones fans many of whom are coming from overseas and that the number of people I gave them on the original booking(20) is just a rough guess and it could be anything from 15 to 30. They're fine with that. I told them I'd give them the final number well in advance,so what I'd like now is those of you who can make it can e-mail me within the next seven days (the sooner the better) so I can provide the restaurant with as much info in good time. Please remember also to let us know if theres anyone else coming along with you. My e-mail address, in case you dont have it, is [email protected].
What happens now is that I secure the reservation with a credit card (no deposit required,its just required as security to confirm the booking) and as soon as I can, I'll let them know how many of us are coming.
As I've said before, if most of you prefer somewhere else it doesnt matter to me personally, but I've booked this restaurant provisionally as quite a few of you have expressed an interest in going there. I'm sure it'll be a fun evening and obviously for Stones fans coming to London, its a natural place to meet.

Ok...I've now officially confirmed this booking today with Sticky Fingers so its definite.
I've told them it could be around 30 people,but its unlikely to be more than 35 or less than 20.
So,I'd like to give them a final amount of people going in a week or so - 10 days at the most. So if anyone else wants to join us, please e-mail me with the details requested and I'll add you to the list (it would help if you added your screenname - if you have one - with your name/e-mail details , as in some cases I dont know your e-mail addresses, just screen names so its not always asy to make the connection!

Martha, You might find the shopping prices rather steep in comparison to the USA - I don't want to rain on your parade, but be prepared to either shop or not to shop!!!! I'm off to Amsterdam tomorrow to see the Stones, so will probably have lots to tell by the time we meet in London - plus I'll have seen them at Twickenham that Sunday.
