I remember watching the first "Herritage Classic" outdoor game in Edmonton (Oilers vs. Canadiens) back in 03. Crazy Canucks. It was -30C (-22F) with the wind chill.
The game wasn't televised in the States.
Sid the "next Gretzky"? Don't think so. He'll be up there with the greatest, though. But, it's agreed that both Canadian-born players have changed the face of hockey in the US.
Look forward to it! |

I am a huge hockey fan. Fun to hear that the NHL is going to play an outdoor game. I think it's because of the sucess of the college hockey game played outdoors last year. I think it was Michigan/Michigan ST. |

Gary Bettman isn't that smart. He probably doesn't even know where Spartan Stadium is!
College sports (including hockey) in the US is much more popular than many of their big league brothers.

With Bettman this thing is doomed..just watch...Instead of the normal 10 feet of snow in Buffalo..It will rain for 2 weeks before and they'll cancel or move it inside...He'll blame God for the problem... |

The NHL needs to aggressively promote this game and Crosby if they ever want to be more than a niche sport. They will have an audience of sports fans gathered around televisions that day. This is their chance. Hell, if NASCAR did it there is no reason why the NHL cannot. |

LOL..Actually the original date I believe was going to be Super Bowl day which funny enough I think would be better.New Years has bowl games and people with hang overs. Now Super Bowl day if they played at 1 pm say I think folks would tune it while getting tired of all the pre Super Bowl crap for 6 hours.I would even check it out as long as it wasnt head up against the Lingerie Bowl! |
