ZZ Top guitarist to perform with modern rockers

ZZ Top singer-guitarist Reverend Billy F. Gibbons will make a guest appearance on Thursday, August 31st on the MTV Video Music Awards. Gibbons will join modern rock band the Raconteurs to perform the ZZ Top classic "Cheap Sunglasses" on the telecast. Gibbons said, "When approached to show them the ropes on this one, how could we not jump right on in? I'm really looking forward to getting into some good blues-toned guitar work with Jack and company. These guys are the real deal, and it'll be nice to play the VMAs again. ZZ did the first one, if memory serves." The 2006 MTV Video Music Awards air at 8 p.m. ET/PT from Radio City Music hall in New York City.

The Raconteurs are led by singer-guitarist Jack White from the band the White Stripes, and singer-guitarist Brendan Benson. The lineup also includes drummer Patrick Keeler and bassist Jack Lawrence.

ZZ Top has been working on a new album for a good part of this year, but the band hasn't said when it will come out.

Dick Bush The fuzzbox Billy is a great, classy guy, who really always had an open mind and open ears for the new stuff, it's no wonder why Jimi appreciated him that much.

He was lucky enough for not to have no Micks to limit him
