On this date in 1968, "Piece of My Heart" by Big Brother & The Holding Company with Janis Joplin singing lead hits the charts ... it is Joplin's and the band's first hit ... meanwhile, because of fears of street violence during the National Democratic Convention, The Rolling Stones' "Street Fighting Man" is banned from air play in Chicago...
Today is the birthday of, among others, bluesman Memphis Slim(1915), Hank Thompson (1925), Freddie King (1934), Al Jardine of The Beach Boys (1943), Don Brewer of Grand Funk Railroad (1948), and Steve Jones of The Sex Pistols (1955).
I'd like to hear a band with all of those guys in it.
