Topic: Can Don Was be stopped? Return to archive

jcdesq I think he should be beaten with the bones from Jimmy Miller's skeleton! Falling short of that, a restraining order should be imposed, preventing that talentless loser from going anywhere near a studio.

He has done the impossible. He has taken the danger and edge out of the Stones music.

Does anyone like this guy?

I'm no fan of Was's, but if "Bang" lacks "danger" or "edge," it's certainly not his fault. It's the least "produced" album that the Stones have released, probably, since "Black and Blue."

corgi37 I dont blame Was for anything. Final say goes to the Glimmer Twins.

100% agree.
Same for the edits on LL..

Too Tough The idea of Don Was as a "long-time" producer is a bit of an illusion because, even though he has been working with the band for more then ten years, they've only made 3 studio albums with him. Aside from B-sides and the four new songs on Forty Licks, his work with the band doesn't really reflect "a ten year association". And as others have said, the Glimmer Twins call the final shots. It's well documented that nothing in the studio goes down with Keith's consent (Mick too, of course, but everyone knows that Keith is the more dominant one in the studio).

Not sure if that's still the case, have you seen this mentioned for recent sessions ?

texile he's an ass-kisser......so it's not really his fault - it's the stones'......

Saint Sway Don Was is a hardcore viagra addict. So I imagine he's pretty unstoppable.

:rimshot:

hey-ho!

glencar I suspect there's something a tad familiar about jcd"ESQ" if you think about it.

Gazza if ABB is an example of Was' fucking up the Stones' sound and ruining their records, then he should do it more often and hopefully again very soon

AMEN GAZZA, CAUSE ITS FUCKING AWESOME.WAS SHOULD GET A GRAMMY FOR PULLING THIS OUT OF THEM.
August 29th, 2005 02:50 PM
Gazza Very fashionable (and convenient) for any Stones fan to blame anyone but the band themselves for anything they dont like about the Stones these days - whether its Leavell, Was, the sound crew, Darryl Jones, Blondie Chaplin, Cohl or anyone else

The bottom line is that all of these people are hired and employed by the Rolling Stones so the buck stops with them if it doesnt work out for your 'heroes' the way you'd like it to.

Listen to the BBC interview thats on as I type this. Was himself says you shouldnt produce any artist that you dont mind losing an argument to, and he doesnt mind if he loses EVERY argument to the Stones.

Co-Producer or not, every note thats on any Stones record is there because either Mick or Keith wants it to be.

Black and Blue has less "production" than Some Girls?
August 29th, 2005 03:36 PM
blackandblue What Gazza says is correct: if you blame Don Was then you should blame the persons who hired him: Keith and Mick.

It's a close call, but, yeah, I'd say so. "Miss You" and "Shattered" are very much studio artifacts, which is why they sound so different live. Everything on "Black and Blue" is immediate and right in your face, which is how "A Bigger Bang" sounds to me...

Saint Sway Don Was & Jack Joseph Puig both worked on the record. Coincidentally, both also produced records for The Black Crowes.

jeez, will the Stones ever stop borrowing ideas from them. ; )

Thank you Gazza! What did I tell you? If Don Was delivereed the exact album everyone has been waiting for people would say it wasn't what they wanted.
Unreal. I think people arewn't truly happy unless their bitching.

And no danger, or edge on ABB? Are we listening to the same album?

Navin I'm not sure, not many like the Don Was produced "Under the Red Sky" by Bob Dylan either, but it sounds great it has the same edge of a dream trash-can production for real rockers with staying power...tough, catchy, true...How many Stones albums have 2 box sets of outtakes, and one compilation of pre-recorded stuff - Voodoo Stew/Brew/Residue - that's 10 cds of top-quality !!

He also produced some of my other favorites, like Iggy Pop.

It would be great if he ever got to produce/work with Alice Cooper in the future.

Soldatti Don Was is a puppet of Mick. We all know that Mick did almost all of the job with Keith adding touches here and there.

??? I STILL CANNOT UNDERSTAND THIS THREAD ???

A Bigger Bang is getting glowing reviews. Almost everyone here at this board and all others either A. Thinks it's truly a great album or B. Thinks it is a good album and are happy with The stripped down hard core sound of it.
Many people, (actually most people) are saying it is the best Stones album in many, many years even decades.

Yet still what is one of the first things going up after this glorious album has been delivered, in the very fashion we all wanted.....another thread on bashing Don Was the producer.

I know, maybe he should of never got involved with it right.....

corgi37 Was also did Stripped. Nothing over produced in that.

Black & Blue was easily the best recorded Stones album for years. For the 1st time (virtually) you can hear Charlies bass drum.

It's virtually a Pink Floyd or Queen album compared to Some Girls grittiness.

Shit yeah! Whats the story? This is the album every stones fan has been waiting for. Stripped back, hardly any production, Mick and keith writing together,Some fucking great songs, RAW ROLLING STONES and to top that off it has 16 tracks.

What more could you possibly want?

It seems some people are never happy. Its quite amazing really.....:|

If this album does not make you happy then nothing will, in my opinion.

try PR0-ZAC.
