luridchief I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that it would be too expensive for them to reproduce it this go round.

egon yep the article was posted here somewhere.
it said it was technically impossible to reproduce
(this, of course, could be a fancy way of saying it's too expensive).

dkmonroe I've seen it, it's not 3D, but the background has a sort of "shimmering" effect.

I'm sure that they could have done it as a fancy box for about $30 a pop, but the probably figured that TSMR wasn't the most popular Stones album, and that it wouldn't sell enough copies to justify the expense. Silly ABKCO. I would have bought one.

TheSavageYoungXyzzy The new package for Their Satanic Majesties Request is printed on holographic paper stock, making it seem shimmerry and with the band on a "3-D" level.

No holographic cover.
