well i suppose it's time to drop the big one... this is a song i wrote inspired by the stones in particular keith
many years ago i read of the story how he bought a nazi staff car allegedly the former property of Goering (so the legend has it)...anyway the first time he takes it out for a spin he totals the thing - gets it restored and repaired -gets it back from the repairer - takes it out again and then totals it again - then writes the whole thing off as a bad idea
anyway, i was always struck by this and thought "nazi staff car" would be a good idea for a song but i could never come up with anything past the title 'til one day at least 10 years after the idea occurred to me it all came out in one rush and took about as long to write as it does to read
in some ways it's supposed to be my take on the classic "rock n roll car song" like chuck berry or bruce springsteen
musically, however, the feel is vegas show band type of thing - the verses are over a simple Emaj7 - Amaj7 groove sort of vegas - samba (think also "the girl from ipanema")
the middle eight should "rock out" in a vegas/big band kind of way - with horns punching out a bluesy bass line (think liza minelli meets muddy waters) - it's about a nazi staff car so it should have nazi music - which stops at the top on the B chord hangs there then falls back into the samba groove on the Emaj7
BTW, i make NO apologies for using an "n" word
it works at a slower tempo too, a paean to the vehicle

Believe it or not, I've got four or five *actual tunes* kicking around which I'm hoping to drag out live sometime next year, assuming I can ever get a band into playable condition. I wrote a cheap punk knockoff called "Soup" to make fun of a local punk band that took themselves so seriously, it's about a minute-thirty and uses three power chords.
The one I'm most proud of (and the one in the most finished stage) is a loverly blues number called "Time Does Not Lie" - I'll have to just stick a microphone near me and record it and see how it works.
However, my contribution to the soundtrack is "Things That I've Been", a little rock number, dedicated to poor Ronnie, that goes like this. (It's got chords, too)

I'd like to say I wrote this while intoxicated. Sadly, I was sober. Therefore I owe Rocks Off an apology... gakk! What was I thinking? Still working it through, really just wrote it off the cuff with the TV playing some crap about "Predator", for some reason.
If it makes you feel any better (it does for me, damnit), the song came out of two seperate jams called "The Death Of Rock And Roll" and "Douchebag".
And I still like the chorus. The verses, however, need work.

This song was inspired by a friend of mine. He was starting a band and wanted all of his friends to write him songs. The idea was that he and his band would perform all original material, but they would write none of it. They would build a punk rock Brill Building out of their peers. I asked him for a topic, and he said, "Oh, write it about some crazy addict." However, his southern accent is so thick I heard him say, "Oh, write it about some crazy attic." Actually, I knew what he wanted, and I tried to give him both, while being incredibly stupid at the same time.
It shuffles along with a loping garage stop time rhythm at the start and the guitars on the chorus should sound like the Thirteenth Floor Elevators meeting the Sex Pistols.
The band never happened because it was a silly idea, but I still sort of remember this song. Please excuse my crappy voice.

To be perfectly honest, I've never even LISTENED to a Genesis record, although knowing my own tastes and preferences, I probably would think they were kind of busybodies and go put on a Ramones record or something. Not to knock; everybody tells me that "Wind/Wuthering" is where/it's/at. But I was feeling pretty silly after typing out the words to "Some Crazy Attic", so I figured I'd throw that in.
