(August 17, 2004) -- The rock 'n' roll world was stunned this week to learn that Charlie Watts has been diagnosed with throat cancer. The good part is, he's in bright spirits and is expected to make a full recovery. He's about to complete six weeks of radiation therapy at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London and is hoping to record with the Stones by the end of this year.

In other Stones health news, Ronnie Wood has just completed a rehab stint at London's Priory Clinic. It was something he voluntarily scheduled in advance and was not the result of a bender, as has been reported elsewhere. Ronnie wanted to be clean for his West Coast swing at the end of this month.

Ronnie will join Rod Stewart for a one-night stand at the Hollywood Bowl on August 30. They intend to play a lot of Faces stuff, not Rod's Tin Pan Alley stuff. Then, around Labor Day weekend, Ronnie will pop in on a couple of galleries that'll be featuring his artwork. (If you're on the Beggars Banquet Online mailing list, you'll be contacted about an opportunity to meet Ronnie in person at the San Francisco Art Exchange.)

In light of the above health concerns, news of a Stones tour seems secondary. But the Stones do plan to forge ahead with a 2005 tour and an album of new material. In the meantime, a live CD from their "Licks" tour is in the works.

Watch this space for further developments.
