mac_daddy if you are interested in this stuff, check Tom's Hardware Guide and search for "DVD burner shootout." I read it maybe a month ago - they really break the area down for you. $150-200 is what you should expect to pay for a drive. I have no idea what the standalones run...

riffhard64 paid 279.00 for my Sony with a 30.00 mail in rebate

Jumping Jack My +R DVD disks play in older -R machines as far as I know. I haven't had a problem yet. Maybe that's why +R disks are more $.
08-25-03 02:07 AM
marko -disks are different system than +r disks,
Minus is a bit like BETA system was/used to be,and +is a bit
like the VHS,which beated beta.Minus disks won´t work on¨
the other player.

Jumping Jack Many of the new burners read both -R & +R but only write +R disks. The +R seem to play fine on -R players.

Factory Girl The Polaid stand alone dvd burner was $399. It was the cheapest. Sony was $499. (This was in a local Best Buy).

riffhard64 I didn't know Polaroid made burners..The Sony i was talking about was an external not a stand alone and i got it at CompUSA...how does the Polaroid work?...any DVD's to trade Factory Girl?
08-25-03 02:24 PM
Factory Girl Hey, riff64-I don't have a dvd burner yet. So, can't do hook ups yet.

A stand alone would work drawer to drawer, I think. But, what if you are converting video to dvd, can a stand alone be used? Does any one know??

Jumping Jack If you want to convert VHS to DVD yous hould look at this:
