I've not seen any shows this tour, but all of the versions I've heard of RO on this tour, indicate to me that, finally, after reviving it on VL tour, they've actually nailed it again live! since '94 jagger seemed to try to talk through the verses, skipped/repeated verses, but in '07 he's slurring in that weird brit-southern drawl he used so effectively in early 70s on songs like RO and Sway. The studio and 70s live versions always had that "train rolling down slightly uneven tracks" sound, which the live version has regained again. Plus the mariachi-like horns and keys are accentuating, not leading the sound. The new, improved live version of RO is grittier, less vegasy, than it has been on recent tours. |
