moy Jagger & Richie In McLure Double-Bill at Kings Head
Date: 15th August 2007

James Jagger, the son of Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall, will make his professional stage debut in Lone Star and Private Wars, two one-act dark comedies by James McLure, at The Kings Head Theatre in Islington on 28 August (Opens 30 August). Joining him will be stage and TV star Shane Richie, who is perhaps best known for playing Alfie Moon in Eastenders, and William Meredith.

The double bill about battle-scarred soldiers returning from war is a highly topical one, with the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan taking up a prominent part of daily news reporting around the world. Lone Star takes place in the cluttered backyard of a small town Texas bar. Roy, once a local high school hero, is back in town after a tour of duty in Vietnam, trying to re-establish his position in the community. In Private Wars, three GIs recover from their injuries on the terrace of an army hospital. But their jokes and mockery hide their fears about the civilian world to which they will soon return.

Jagger is a relative newcomer to acting, although has recently completed filming in the upcoming Knife Edge.

Shane Richie’s stage credits include the 2007 UK tour of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (See News, 10 Apr 2007), the UK tour of Scrooge, and Grease in both London and Manchester. He has also had an extensive career on the screen, with roles in Macbeth opposite Greta Scacchi and Sean Pertwee, Dead Clean, Distant Shadow and most recently the animated film Flushed Away for which he provided the voice of Sid the rat.

William Meredith has previously played Amos Hart in Chicago and Mark Chapman in One Bad Thing – The Murder of John Lennon.

Lone Star and Private Wars were first presented Off-Broadway in 1979 and subsequently produced in London by the Bush Theatre in 1980. The King’s Head production is directed by Henry Mason, a previous assistant director at Hampstead Theatre, who is making his professional stage directing debut. Lighting design is by Mike Robertson, 2007 Laurence Olivier Award winner for Sunday In The Park With George. The production runs until 23 September.
