Topic: Nicky Hopkins and the Jerry Garcia Band Return to archive
08-19-03 05:19 PM
mac_daddy from August to New Year's Eve in 1975, my favorite Stones' keyboardist - Nicky Hopkins - was part of the Jerry Garcia Band, which at the time also included Ron Tutt on drums (Elvis' old drummer) and the ever-impressive John Kahn on bass...

I have two (actually three) shows currently available for download via Bit Torrent. I will also take some trades for any/all of these (5 audio / 3 SHN discs).

10/23/1975 - two set show in Providence, RI
10/24/1975 - early and late shows in Boston, MA

All recordings are complete and the sources/tapers/equipment are all documented...

Now I love the Stones, but one thing they have never been big on is having their supporting cast stretch out and have some of the limelight. Hopkins is here on these tapes in all his glory. He shines on 10/23 and while obviously snookered on the 24th, his playing is very good to excellent throughout, and it is great to be able to hear what this guy could do in a live setting, when given the opportunity...

Jerry even allows space during the shows for Nicky to perform some of his own tunes (something that he didn't do with any other band members)...

The links to the downloads are here, or simply PM me if you would like to trade.

mac_daddy Jerry played that alot...

one day I will put together all my ideas on the jerry-keith connection (there is alot more than you would think...

but rest assured, I will offer every jerry band show that circulates with nicky, and yes - I will trade you for any/all of them...

but for now you get Jimmy W's recordings of 10/23 and 24...

good stuff, for sure. Ron Tutt is an awesome drummer, and John Kahn is rock's most under-rated bassists.
