Ten Thousand Motels George Thorogood And The Destroyers On Tour This Summer And Fall
artist: george thorogood date: 08/14/2007
Ultimate-guitar.com

In 1982, George Thorogood and The Destroyers first hit the rock charts with their major label debut, Bad To The Bone. On August 14, 2007, Capitol/EMI will release Bad To The Bone: 25th Anniversary Edition, an expanded single-disc collection featuring the original gold-certified album, digitally remastered from the original master tapes for the first time, as well as six newly-recorded versions of album tracks and a rare B-side.

By the time Bad To The Bone became Thorogood's EMI debut, he and the Destroyers had already toured with the Rolling Stones and demonstrated their mettle by playing a tour in which they performed 50 shows in all 50 states in 50 days. Bad To The Bone helped to catapult George Thorogood and the Destroyers (featuring drummer Jeff Simon and bassist Billy Blough) to a new level of popularity, achieving Gold sales status and spending nearly a year on the charts. The title track became Thorogood's first major crossover hit, fueled by heavy music video rotation on MTV. It has maintained a remarkably durable shelf life in the years since, remaining a staple of classic-rock radio, while continuing to be a popular choice for film soundtracks and TV commercials.

Of Bad To The Bone’s iconic title track, Thorogood says, “Billy, Jeff and I had been playing that ‘Bad to the Bone’ riff for a long time, waiting for me to write some words, so that song plays fast and that’s why everybody likes it. That song carries the album.”

Beyond the title anthem, the songs span the range of Thorogood’s influences, from the Berryesque workout "Back to Wentzville" to the playful rocker "Miss Luann" to the soulful road ode "Blue Highway" to the uncharacteristically introspective blues ballad "It's A Sin." He also delivers high-energy readings of the Chuck Berry classic "No Particular Place to Go" and the Isley Brothers/Human Beinz chestnut "Nobody But Me."

Bad To The Bone: 25h Anniversary Edition augments the original album with the non-LP instrumental "That Philly Thing," originally released as the B-side to the "Nobody But Me" single, plus six newly-recorded tracks on which Thorogood and The Destroyers offer updated versions of songs from the original album.

Bad To The Bone remains a treasured cornerstone of the Thorogood catalog. In the years since the album’s release, Thorogood has continued to rock on his own terms, while maintaining a large and devoted fanbase. His body of recorded work encompasses a dozen studio albums and several concert recordings, and he and The Destroyers continue to actively tour to major music venues around the world.

Martha They've been here and played Red Rocks. GREAT show btw. Koko Taylor opened, then Buddy Guy played his set and Koko came out to guest with him. Gem moment. Then George Thoroughly Good took the stage and ROCKED with that intense rhythm section that just doesn't stop. Elvin Bishop happened to be there that night as well and came out and guested with George. He was fabulous. We had 4th row seats and the show was BALLS!

I have a copy of George's set and Buddy Guy's. set. The taper was standing in front of us all night, so I introduced myself and got the show a week later via mail. ;-)

I'd be happy to burn it if anyone is interested.

xxoo,
Martha

nankerphelge My first Stones show was Buffalo '81

George "rocked the clouds away" that day!

I see he is playing at the Rams Head in Annapolis in a few.
TomL, LJ and I saw the Blushing Brides there a couple of years ago.

Nice place, but strict rules: "no standing, clapping, or dancing".

That didn't last long when we saw the Brides.

Wonder what they'll do when George T rips into town!

Yeah!..remember the extended jam he played knowing the clouds were about to part?...lol...other things that day:

*The guy who fell over the railing from mid deck
*Wind was so fierce the sound was all over the place
*What a downer Journey was...specially after George juiced the crowd
*Some drunk at our hotel that morning asked the waitress to fill his plastic jug with orange juice..he had a fifth of vodka in it...Waitress doesnt know and dumps teh vodka before she filled the orange juice..lmaoooo..its Sunday and liquor stores closed!

Throwaway Not to sound like a d-bag, but its actually the Rams Head Live in Baltimore where I will be seeing George on the 24th... i hope to see a few other Mid-Atlantic RO'ers in the place!
15th August 2007 06:53 AM
Zack Any truth to the rumor they were considering kicking Ronnie out of the band for his base habit and having old Georgie fill in for him? If I heard it, it must be true.
15th August 2007 11:26 AM
ComeAsYouAre He's not going to play his home town?
15th August 2007 01:26 PM
nankerphelge Hey gimmekeef, you forgot the biggest thing of that day -- when the roadies climbed the scaffolds and took razors to that giant beautiful mural leaving only the bare scaffolds and speakers.

If you look at pix of that day, you will not see that mural!

Talk about a bummer -- but I was about 40 feet from the stage and that wind damn near toppled that whole structure. I remember Charlie looking up at it like "uh oh"
15th August 2007 01:58 PM
gimmekeef Yup..you're right.lol...I was too loaded to move up front so stayed in middle..sound was sporadic....Have you heard the SBD thats out there of that show?...any good??...I went to the Dead at the Aud the night before...got wasted and stayed wasted throughout...Left the Playboy club out by airport around 4 or 5 back to hotel and just crashed 2 hrs and headed out to Rich to tailgate.....Great times huh?......
16th August 2007 02:20 PM
nankerphelge Actually our own GTRM gave me that puppy in AC last year.
I listened to it in AC and it sounded really good. considering the wind that day.
Then I lost it during my recent move.
I'm sure it'll turn up.

I remember in Buffalo that day, Mick had this long-ass scarf, and he held it all the way out horizontally in the wind and tickeled Wyman's face with it.

Bill nearly smiled!

No I missed that, but I was at SARS.
Are you still in Kitchener???

Well, we must have bumped into each other at a few shows, then.

I've seen every Buffalo Stones show since '75 and '94 at the CNE!
