Jacques.
There is a rail service direct from Stansted airport to Liverpool Street station in central London. (Some airlines give you a discount on the price of the ticket if you buy it from them on the plane. You may wish to check if that service is available). The journey takes about 30-40 minutes I would think.
From there (if youre going directly to Twickenham),you can do it by Tube, National Rail or a combination of both

for all people travelling out to Twickenham and returning to London:
buy a 'One day all-zone Travelcard' for £6.30. from any station. (twickenham station, while outside London, is within Zone 5 so this should still be valid)
It's good for unlimited travel pretty much anywhere in the London area by bus, train or the Underground.
Valid from 09.30am Monday to Friday and all day at weekends.
Most direct route if youre coming from Central London is to get a travelcard and go from Waterloo (the rail station, not the Tube station) to Twickenham. Its a direct route, with no changes and should take no more than 30 minutes
Thanks to barkingpaul for the info
