Remember the Mustique Blues Festival CD I wrote about one or two weeks ago?
Well, it's arrived today! Not bad. The cover art is designed to make one dream about tropics... But this is not the most important feature !
Back to the music... Mick sings two old blues numbers : Dust My Broom (R. Johnson/Elmore James) and Going Down (Don Nix), good voice, with a "down home blues" feeling overall.
Other performers: Dana Gillespie, Luddy Samms, The Marques Brothers, Zach Prather, Dino Baptiste, Big Joe Louis, Felix Dennis and Ben Shaw each sing one or two songs, but Prather (guitar) and Baptiste (piano) also serve as back-up band for the "stars", with harp player Mike Paice, plus Jake Zaitz (guitar), Jeff Walker (bass) and Evan Jenkins (drums).
Apart from Mick, I quite liked Samms, the Marques Brothers & Dana Gillespie. Special mention to Mike Paice for the fine harmonica licks he provides.
In short: a cool little album, which should please both the Mick-addicts and the astute collectors...
Bref, un CD sympa, qui s'écoute bien, et peut intéresser les inconditionnels de Mick aussi bien que les collectionneurs avisés. |
