Exactly what is the argument that Mick Taylor was the best thing on earth and Ronnie sucks? Can someone please explain? |

Mick Taylor was OK. But Ronnie is amazing. Really great at hammering a couple of chords here and there. And he still takes the time to wave to the crowd during a song. Thats so cool.
Ronnie also has a cooler hair cut and jumps around more.
plus theres no denying that the quality of songs has vastly improved during the Woody years. Especially the guitar parts.
and keep in mind, if Mick Taylor was in the band, would we really need Blondie? I just cant imagine seeing the Stones without that guy playing guitar on the side of the stage. I bet it would suck.

If you listen to Taylor's solo the 72 version of Dead Flowers from L>RS, there is no doubt his lead guitar work is legendary. I wish he still weighed 150 lbs and was still in the band. Hell, I wanted them to move Ronnie to bass when Wyman left and have Taylor back on lead guitar......I want a lot of things I'll never have. His weight would be an issue...no doubt about it....it is superficial, but looks count....it's show busines. |

to borrow a saying that George Steinbrenner once used - Mick Taylor is "a fat, bloated toad"
but Lowell George, Jerry Garcia, Leslie West, Greg Allman, Warren Haynes are/were fat asses. So... who really cares.
its about the music
Ronnie can wail. And his no-bullshit, focused and determined workmanship onstage is unparralled in the music industry. He's hands down one of the most focused and soulful players you will ever see. |

Mick Taylor was more melodic and played harder/faster solos and in a way kept the band more uptemo. However, I like Ronnie's style alot better even though he plays a bit sloppy (but I like it). |

Agreed. There is so much passion in those fist pumps and sour notes. |

But it's all about the image, isn't it?
BB King, Albert King, Freddie King, Maria Callas--supposedly all sounded better when they weighed more
And there were Howlin Wolf and Willie Dixon . . .
Built For Comfort
by Willie Dixon
Some folk built like this, some folk built like that
But the way I'm built, you shouldn't call me fat
Because I'm built for comfort, I ain't built for speed
But I got everything all the good girls need
I don't have no diamond, and I don't have no gold
But I've got a lot of lovin' and I want you to know
That I'm built for comfort, I ain't built for speed
But I got everything all the good girls need
Some folk rip and roar, some folk b'lieve in signs
But if you want me, you got to take your time
Because I'm built for comfort, I ain't built for speed
But I got everything all the good girls need
And I don't got no diamonds, don't have no gold
Got a lot of lovin' to satisfy your soul
I'm built for comfort, I ain't built for speed
But I got everything all the good girls need
Three Hundred Pounds of Joy
by Willie Dixon
All you girls think the days are gone
You don't have to worry, you can have your fun
Take me, baby, for your little boy
Three hundred pounds of heavenly joy
This is it
This is it
Look what you get
You been creeping and hiding behind his back
'Cause you got you a man that you don't like
Throw that Jack, baby, outta your mind
Follow me, baby, have a real good time
This is it
This is it
Look what you get
Hoy! Hoy! I'm the boy
Three hundred pounds of heavenly joy
I'm so glad that you understand
Three hundred pounds of muscle and man
This is it
This is it
Look what you get
If the men's all mad then the women's glad
If the little kids' happy then the old folk's mad
I'm so glad that you understand
Three hundred pounds of muscle and man
This is it
This is it
Look what you get

Three hundred pounds of joy. Jeez. Fat sucks because it's unhealthy, a symptom of a problem. That's why it's not attractive. |

The point is that these were great musicians. If you let their size get in the way of your appreciation, you're missing out on a lot of good music.
