Topic: last great Stones album track(non-single)? Return to archive Page: 1 2 3

speedfreakjive hi all!

many would say Oh No Not You Again judging by a recent thread, but seriously I would have to say that in general the Stones' best tunes are singles.

I would say the last great Stones album track is from Tattoo You - there were more great album tracks before Undercover IMHO.

'Ain't No Use In Crying'

beautiful verse and chorus and a rounded band performance

furthermore, TY has now risen to my 3rd favourite Stones album after Exile and Sticky Fingers

Gazza Laugh I Nearly Died

The Stones havent put out a great first single since "Undercover of the Night" - maybe "Love is Strong".

I liked Anybody Seen My Baby, but it wasnt a good choice as a first single.

Most of their best songs in recent years have been non-singles. The 3 songs chosen for singles from ABB (Rough Justice, SOL and Rain Fall Down) werent even close to being the best songs on that record.

yes, but you are bringing up the issue of '1st Singles', which is probably another issue entirely

I think the song was an obvious first single.
About ABB, the only radio friendly tune must be SOL, all the rockers are too forced and without strong hooks, both RJ and ONNYA were US rock radio singles and both songs barely made the charts.

The last GREAT album track (no single) must be something from Tattoo You or Undercover, Tops or Too Tough.

agree in general, I definitely agree that the rockers on ABB are too forced

ok, that's true.
then i'd have to agree with you about no use in crying.
it's a sad and beatiful song...both lyrically and performance-wise.
and the last time jagger sang like that - completely without affectation.
the lines just kill me every time.
you love this person, but can't take the risk of their pain.
