Topic: DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO BUY A REALLY GOOD MEN'S HAT IN LONDON?!?!?! :) Return to archive
08-12-03 09:40 PM
MarthaMyDear NSC:

I know this sounds silly... I want to buy a hat for my dad
while I'm in London at the Stones shows (size 9... No, he
will not be pleased if there is the Stones tongue logo on it
but he laughs whenever I show him that logo... I guess he
thinks I'm obsessed?!?!?! lol................... Or, it's
actually funny-looking anyways, so!!! lol.......... :P
) so if anyone has any suggestions on where to get nice
ones, etc., please let me know, ok., and it can be somewhat
expensive but medium-priced is good, also, 'cause I'll be
buying some more souvineers, also, so... He's sending me some
money for this trip and NOW I'm on a guilt trip, etc., so it
has to be nice... lol.......... :P AND, IT HAS TO BE
GILLIGAN FROM GILLIGAN'S ISLAND-STYLE!!!
ROTFLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Preferrably... lol.......... :P
Thank you, kind people, and take care, PEACE, and
ROCK ON!!!

just not sure I want to go into a department store when I'm
on vacation BUT I need to buy a tea cup there, like Parmeda
suggested, so that sounds like the place!!! THANK YOU!!!
lol....................... :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

dealer squealing Well Martha there is no better place than London to buy a tea cup
Oh how i whish i was going to London for the shows
hope you will find a hat for your old man and a tea cup and the Stones will play Loving Cup for you like i got in Sweden.

Talya Peachfeather Martha,

I'd look in the Yellow Pages when you get here. Another idea is to find good menswear shops in central London and go from there. I'm sure you'll be able to find at least ONE hat there. BTW there's an excellent left-handed shop in central London I think it's called Everything Left handed, and you can buy left handed tea pots there (go figure!!!! LOL!!!!) - they REALLY are made with the handle on one side!!!!! It's quite an entertaining little shop - I'm lefthanded, which is why I know about it!!!!
08-13-03 10:37 AM
jb I would try many of the fine mens shops along Saville Road...
08-13-03 04:34 PM
Gazza you mean Savile Row, Josh...

I'd be surprised youd ever set foot in Savile Row if you were in london. Even though the tailors may cater for your budget, its also the same street which used to house APPLE, the former HQ of a certain band you dont like and where they gave their most famous (and final) public performance on the rooftop...
08-13-03 04:43 PM
jb LOL Gazza....didn't know that....but the reputation of the clothes makers there is world famous...even mordern designers like Paul Smith started there.....also, some fabulous shoe makers at the same location ...
08-13-03 04:51 PM
Gazza yes..its #3 Savile Row,I think,in case you feel the need to burn it down after a shopping spree if you're ever there.

Not that I'd encourage that kind of thing, you understand..

MarthaMyDear Good Lord!!! Yet another descent into insanity on the
outskirts of dementia!!!
ROTFLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P
Well, THANK YOU, all of you nice people, for your
help!!! CRACKING-UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P
I'll follow all of the advice here INCLUDING
Josh's... Imagine that... CRACKING-
UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P :P :P :P :P
:P :P :P :P :P And,
thank you, Talya, for your advice, also!!!
By the way, did you know that Johnny
Rotten is a "south paw", also?!?!?! I have an old friend who
is, also, and probably tons of people I know but just didn't
realize it, etc.... That store sounds cool, actually... Maybe
I WILL check it out so thank you for that!!!
And, thank you, dealer squealing!!! I
hope the Stones play Loving Cup... You could still go to the
London shows if you want to, I think!!! I saw them here in
L.A. and they played Loving Cup and it was EXCELLENT!!! I
know people are probably still selling tix so there's still
hope!!! I'm beginning to enjoy the banter going on between
Josh and Gary!!! lol..................... It's, uh, kind of
reminding me of Laurel and Hardy, although it would be ALOT
funnier if it was more like Abbott and Costello because we
both know, Gary, that Abbott and Costello ARE funnier than
Laurel and Hardy... ROTFLOL!!!!!!!!!!! Just had to clarify
that!!! :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P
:P:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
CRACKING-UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P :P
:P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P
Ok.!!! lol.................... :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P
:P Anyways, take care,
PEACE, and DO ROCK ON!!! CRACKING-
UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P :P :P :P :P
:P :P :P :P :P

Highwire Rob MarthaMyDear,

You may want to check out Debenhams English tweed caps -- you can't get more English than that!

Here's the Oxford Street, London store details:

Of course, your Pop may be more of a bowler/derby man--you should be able to locate some London stores selling hard top bowlers...

telecaster Lock & Co. has produced some of the world's most famous hats for the likes of Winston Churchill, Graham Greene, Oscar Wilde, Frank Sinatra and Jackie Onassis. But if you're after the perfect hat for yourself, having the right fit will make all the difference.

The company files hold the shape of customers' heads. An impression is taken using the conformateur, a French machine patented in the 1850s.

The company's files show that the British head has, on average, increased by at least three-eighths of an inch in circumference every half century. American heads are slightly larger and longer than British ones.

The advent of the automobile marked the end of the golden age of hats: they either were knocked off people's heads getting in and out of cars or blown off in the wind.
