er. No they havent.

They havent mentioned him by name in any lyrics that have been quoted or any interviews that I'm aware of...

still, why not make a fuss over it anyway, eh?

Yes Gazza............You have Bono the twat telling politicians what to do, and we simply have a song , which suggest he was wrong, and the righties are having do-do in their sweet neo-con pants!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monkey Woman As throbby said, Andrew must be proud.

It's funny to think that over recent years, many fans and reviewers have accused the Stones of not doing political stuff any more... Having "lost their edge" or guts or whatever... But they didn't lose their knack to stir up controversy!

No??????????? About who is that fucking song anyway???
August 9th, 2005 11:16 AM
Eelco For every neo-con: Mick Jagger condemned the war in Iraq and votes SWP (left wing revolutionairy party). By the way: I don't have a clue why a neo-con likes the Stones anyway. The Stones represent everything noe-cons dislike, here in the Netherlands a conservative Christian movement once predicted the torn of god for everybody who was present at there concert in Groningen (fun).

About some still unnamed neo-con, of course! Mick must be familiar about libel laws!

We only have 3 or 4 lines of the song, anyway.

Yes but he did say it matters to Keith because he lives in the U.S. but not him. So it's pretty obvious it's about a U.S. national figure and not some personal acquaintance.

The Wick Eelco, trust me, I am on the far left of the political spectrum, but I don't think politics should make a difference regarding the music one listens to. However, it is completely hypocritical if people vote for a bunch of religious conservatives and then talk about getting fucked all night without batting an eye lid. It's like the politician who talk about family values and then goes and has a ton of affairs.

Or a US national political movement. A general neocon rather than a specific one.

Does not vote SWP?
Only himself knows. He joked about voting socialist in Being Mick, but that's keeping a shroud of alluring mystery around himself. He voiced anarchist ideas in the '60s, liked Thatcher in the '80s but after that, who knows now for whom he votes...

Either Armaggedon or a huge critical error on the servers!

(Or nothing at all if the shows are keeping people too happy to think about anything else!)

Everybody must listen to the music he or she wants but I don't understand it. Neocons dislike gay, drugs, free sex, etc... The Stones sing about all that... It would be the same as somebody like me listened to songs as 'Bombing Iraq is fun'... I don't get it.

I would agree if that was the main basis for voting.
I think what you find in the US is that many people vote conservative based on things other than morality issue -- national security, tax breaks, etc. I am not the least bit religious -- I think people should be allowed to get ripped up and have a good time -- yet I vote and think more conservative on those other issues. Put differently, I am not willing to give my check and my security over to people like Al Gore or John Kerry simply because they are less openly religious in their politics.

sirmoonie The song Sweet Neo Con can't be about George Walker Bush III. George Walker Bush III isn't a hypocrite. He's too fucking stupid to be a hypocrite. His mushy policies and statements are all over the fucking place because he's an idiot, not because of any hypocritical calculations he's making.

He's not a conservative either. He's too fucking stupid to be conservative. This song must be about someone else.

But, I'm once again proud of my continuous groundbreaking band. They made Drudge Report! We should have got the red and blue "Breaking" ambulance lights, though.

This is great. I see another segment on O'Reilly - "The faces of evil attack America - are the Rolling Stones aiding Al Queda?"

youve had access to his ballot papers, then? LOL

How many people in the UK vote for the SWP? About 12? They're a complete political non-entity

Describing yourself as a 'socialist' in the UK basically means that you're a traditional Labour supporter. Not an SWP supporter. I'd be amazed if the SWP even stood for election where Mick lives. I cant see them making much headway with the electorate of Richmond.

Jagger has historically been a Labour voter - he was approached by Tom Driberg (a Labour MP) in the 60's with a view to becoming a prospective parliamentary candidate.

Whilst he's normally been relatively coy about his politics, its somewhat evident from interviews down the years that if anything he's probably shifted more to the right of the Labour party (as has most of the party itself)...maybe even further

The idea of a money-obsessed capitalist like Jagger supporting a party which given the chance would gladly relieve him of the vast majority of his wealth in a flash doesnt make sense.

Oh, and no SWP voter would EVER accept a knighthood!!

Welcome to Rocks Off, by the way!

First of all you're sweet neo-con presidents predecessors (dad & friends) teached Osama and friends how to bom the hell out of people. Second Rumsfeld was good friends with Saddam (did you see theme shake hands?). You're country will be safe I guess when they are guarding it. Thats why you voted for Bush, who cares about the moral issues...

Mel Belli I don't have any idea what the term "neo-con" means to folks outside of America, but here, at least, it refers very specifically to conservatives who are not part of the religious right.

From the extract we've seen of the song, Mick seems confused about this, like many in this thread.
August 9th, 2005 11:49 AM
Monkey Woman No offense, Eelco, I see you're new to the board, but these issues (2004 elections, the Iraq war, the way Rumsfeld and Reagan helped Iraq in the '80s, etc., etc.) have been discussed to death SEVERAL TIMES on this board already. And on other Stones boards. It does get tiresome...

Then the conservatives in the USA who got in a tizzy about the song, as seen already on radios, websites, papers, etc., have all been ignoring a significant fact about their own country's political landscape... Howe can this happen...
