Photos roll back the years for Stones
By Richard Alleyne
(Filed: 09/08/2003)

The Rolling Stones in their hedonistic heyday rarely made a boring picture, and these previously unseen images are no exception.

Christopher Simon Sykes, who recently took interior photographs of Clarence House, Prince Charles's new home, discovered the unique photo diary hidden away in a box at his home.

Sykes, a life-long friend of Sir Mick Jagger, was given unrestricted access to the band during the infamous 44-gig Tour of the Americas in 1975, when the Stones were at their most flamboyant and outrageous.

He took thousands of shots that perfectly catch the craziness of the period and the wild excesses of a rock 'n' roll band in its prime.

Now, on the eve of the band beginning a British tour, they are going on show under the title The Rolling Stones: An Unseen Diary at the Gettyimages Gallery in Chelsea, west London, from Aug 30 to Oct 25.
