First-ever Bob Dylan art show bound for east Germany
Wed Aug 8, 1:02 PM ET
BERLIN (AFP) - Rock legend Bob Dylan will open the
first-ever museum exhibition of his paintings in a
city in the former east Germany, the Chemnitz Art
Collections museum said Wednesday.
The three-month show called "The Drawn Blank Series"
will begin October 28 and feature more than 200
paintings based on drawings and sketches Dylan
published in a book titled "Drawn Blank" in 1994.
The new paintings will hang among works by European
masters including Picasso, Munch and Toulouse-Lautrec,
Anja Richter of the museum told AFP.
The director of the Chemnitz museum, Ingrid
Moessinger, said Dylan, 66, had committed himself to
the visual arts for four decades alongside his
songwriting.
She said the new works were in watercolour and gouache
and were notable for their splashes of vibrant colour.
"I first came across Bob Dylan's book of drawings at
an historical exhibition about Bob Dylan at The Morgan
Library and Museum in New York," Moessinger said.
"I went straight out and bought my own copy and
immediately began to track down the originals."
Dylan said Moessinger's enthusiasm had inspired him to
prepare an exhibition.
"It gave me the impetus to realise the vision I had
for these drawings many years ago," he said in a
statement released by Columbia Records.
Known as Karl Marx Stadt under the East German regime,
Chemnitz was converted into a socialist model city
with prefabricated concrete housing blocks replacing
most of the buildings destroyed in the war.
The Chemnitz Art Collections is housed in one of the
city's few remaining grand old pre-war buildings.

That's correct. It's odd though that in East Berlin theyve still retained a lot of the Communist street names. |

Hi and Welcome to ROCKS OFF Adams. No European tour in the works for this year, from what I know about it. A US tour is though and it should be up any day now. :-)

Hi and thanks. I don't think it's my first post though, could be second Hope there is a good promoter to get him to Poland sometime. The one who brought The Stones this year is the same one who brought us Bob Dylan in 1994. Maybe he could repeat it...
