moy Virgin boss had a mile-high at 19
31 Jul 2007, 0133 hrs IST,AFP

LONDON: Richard Branson, the Virgin Atlantic airline chief, lifted the lid on how he joined the mile-high club in a plane toilet, in interview extracts released on Sunday. He said it was "every man's dream". He also admits to having tried cocaine, ecstasy and Viagra, in the forthcoming edition of a monthly men's magazine.

"I was sitting in economy on a Freddie Laker flight, next to this very attractive lady, as we headed to Los Angeles," said the boss of Virgin Atlantic. "We got chatting and it went a bit further. I was about 19."

"The problem with plane loos generally is that they are very small, and the acrobatics can't take too long. What I remember vividly is seeing four handprints on the mirror as we finished, and thinking I'd better wipe them off."

About his experiences with Viagra, he said: "I had to tie something around my trousers for the rest of the next day to make sure nothing showed." Of cocaine, he added: "I suspect I've tried it, yes." And he said Keith Richards was the "first person to teach me how to roll a joint". "I have smoked cannabis though. I went with my son on his gap year. We learnt to surf and had some nights where we laughed our heads off for eight hours."

What pdog said... Keith influenced me to try substances, first being cigarettes (a terrible addiction). I did snort heroin, but only 12 times over a 3 year timespan. I had a friend commit suicide with it(among a mix). I never got hooked, thankfully, and for a long time I just cringe at the thought of it, but especially of doing it.

Ten Thousand Motels I tried heroin once. And I quit marijuana twenty years ago. Keith Richards had nothing at all to do with it. Beer and cigarettes I cannot quit. I don't even bother to try anymore. Someday maybe but at this point I doubt it. So I don't worry about it.

late 80's to mid 90's with varying degrees of off and on. Got real bad and health and felonies played a part in stopping. Coke and booze were also big problems... Basically I liked to get high and fuck up...

robpop I was into booze (still drink, not like I used to) and coke. Gave it all up for a while. About three years ago, my girl dumped me about 3 weeks before our wedding. I never knew why. I turned to booze and coke real heavy.

Well any she told everybody that I beat the fuck out of her, which is not true at all, but everybody believed her. So one day I was drunk and coked up, went to her work while she was in a meeting, and set the record straight. Fuck, she left in tears, and never came back. I told her superiors her whole fucking life story. She ran out when I was talking about the lesbo threesomes she would get into.

I don't don't do coke anymore FYI. I feel bad for what I did that day, but I also feel good about it.

robpop Hey I just saw some story about how the bassist from Slade got a parking ticket in Athens GA, while he was taking a dump on the new super toilet. You are missing your chance to cut and paste it in a new thread. So many people would love to hear this story.

Keith Richards working on memoir

07/31/2007 9:00 PM, AP

NEW YORK - Rolling Stone Keith Richards, cigarette no doubt in hand, is working on a memoir, the object of a multimillion dollar bidding war that will be published by Little, Brown and Company in 2010.

"It will be his life's story," Little, Brown publisher Michael Pietsch said Tuesday. "For nearly 50 years, he has been at the very center of the vortex of stardom and of entertainment as a cultural force. He's a thread running through the whole thing."

Richards, the master riffer, legendary partier and songwriting/sparring partner with Mick Jagger, received $7.3 million for the book, according to a publisher insider with knowledge of the negotiations. Currently untitled, the memoir will be written with James Fox, an old friend of Richards' and author of "White Mischief."

"Keith is working with someone who has been a friend and is an extremely skilled writer. I know that James has also been talking with people close to Keith," says Pietsch, who declined to offer specific names or say whether Fox was talking with members of the Rolling Stones.

Richards' life and work have fascinated millions, but his is hardly an untold story. Richards, 63, has been interviewed countless times, speaking candidly about his music, heroin addiction, love life and battles with Jagger. He is quoted extensively in "According to the Rolling Stones," an authorized oral history published in 2003.

"All those interviews have been scattered over decades," Pietsch says. "To have the story of his own life in one book, there's no experience like that. And there will be stories he has never uttered before."

Other Rolling Stones have written memoirs, including former bassist Bill Wyman and fellow guitarist Ron Wood, whose book is due this fall. Jagger has reportedly tried writing his autobiography, but given up, claiming he couldn't remember anything of interest.

Pietsch said that he has read some samples from Richards' book, and found them "delicious."

"The range and type of stories was exactly what you would hope to hear," Pietsch says. "The memories and the emotions, people wonder if he remembers anything, but I wish my memory was that good."

Saint Sway I went thru a brief period a few years back where I Keith had turned me on to wearing trinkets and fishing lures in my hair

eventually I was able to quit, but the temptation is still always there anytime I come across a large paper clip, a Christmas ornament, a Slinkie or a Grolsch bottle cap.

Mel Belli I still find it hard to imagine Charlie doing heroin.

morocco I find it hard to believe that Keith is "an extremely skilled writer." Also, that he has the discipline to complete a book.

Navin yeah, Charlie doing heroin was quite natural...a jazz connection there. And I'm glad he did it, and of course, more so for comming out of it stronger, he's got that classic "Stones Heroin Face" now along with the others.

i think they were referring to this Fox character when they said that

however, i wouldn't find it hard to believe Keith is a "skilled writer" - given the fact that he is notoriously well read i would expect his prose (like much of his music) would be an individual expression of all his influences

your point about the discipline i take - and is possibly one reason he is accepting the assitance of a co-author
