Saint Sway ...as the track is fading out as Mick Taylor is unleashing one of the most rippin solos ever?

well if you dont, then put on yer headphones and crank it loud because that is as gorgeous, fluid, majestic playing as you'll ever hear!!!!
10th August 2006 12:35 PM
jb same for Sway!!!!
10th August 2006 12:41 PM
Saint Sway agreed!

Jimmy Miller did a great job on those records. But on those tracks he should of let the song rock on instead of fading out. Taylor was ripping. Gotta unleash the boy and let him run.

Steel Wheels Whoa, a post about music? Not bitching about ticket sales?

Earphones are a MUST with the Stones, especially Exile. So many little gems are waiting inside...

Kilroy I love everything about this Song, and have listened to it for years.
I hate it when I hear the Stones do a lame version of this their own song.
The one that comes to mind is the Live Licks version, were Mick fucks up the classic line, and doesn't even sing The Siunshine bore the daylights out of me. Why did they put that version on a Live album?

That part needed to be extended and TURNED UP.

I know exactly what you mean. A shame we didn't get to hear it all. But Rocks Off is one of those songs you wish would never stop anyway.

corgi37 I used to slowly turn the volume up on the old LP's as the track faded. My headphones were shaking with rumble & static by the end of each track. I agree, what would be more unreal than another minute of Sway, or Rocks off, or another fantastic one, Soul Survivor.

I swear, that fucking song is just unreal. That slide just comes in under the radar, and then lingers in your soul. There is so much stuff going on by the end. It's like one gigantic, bluesy/swampy soup.

Zeeta It's awesome!

*FLUID* is the word.

Same goes for the soloing at the end of Casino Boogie - life affirming!

oh he SINGS it OK (watch the DVD) - thats the least of our collective outrage at what they chose to release however

Madafaka I wonder why that part of the song is edited. Really I don't understand!

Bitch Wish they would add this in to the setlist again for Europe and the US fall leg. I was lucky to hear it in Philly & MSG this tour, and it was great, beautiful, fantastic, exciting. Always get my rocks off when the RS play ROCKS OFF! Ronnie does a decent sound with it, but he's no Mick Taylor. Lisa spices it up nicely too. IMO

word! MT's soloing on that song kicks ass, ive spent many a time jamming along to it on my guitar!
imo, mick just doesnt have the vocal ability to sing rocks off live anymore....live licks rocks off was dissapointing...lisa just comes in to add ballast to his voice. the original didnt need a woman it needed keith's earthy backing!!

Songs get edited on all Stones live albums. In this case, the album was originally meant to have about 33 tracks over two discs but then had about a third of the songs dropped shortly prior to the release date.

To have fitted 33 songs onto 160 minutes of music they would have needed some to have been edited. My guess is that the song was edited at the initial stage and then when they chose the songs that WERE released, they simply kept the edited versions and didnt restore them to their full length (the album only runs for about 110 minutes so there is about 50 minutes free)

While the vast majority of edits are done in a way which will be oblivious to the casual listener, the Stones clearly never listened to the finished version before sanctioning its release, because even someone with the hearing capacity of Beethoven in his later years would be capable of noticing it

Kilroy I still say' since it is my favorite Stones song, I can't stand that it's Edited on one of the greatest Stone phrases, lyrics of all time. What was sonmeone thinking, clearly they were not. Would someone cut out the line about "He does smoke the same cigarettes as me" in I Can't Get No Satisfaction cause it didnt fit. It'didnt fit give me a break, that *%$^ing lame.

aladdinstory i swear on my old vinyl copy of Exile that the closing mt rocks off solo was both higher in the mix and of a longer duration than subsequent CD's, anyone else find this to be true?

in regards to sway, once i read a review (think it was Creem) of SF where the reviewer said that it was the first song to ever fade up instead of out at the end, an accurate description i think.

Lethargy Saint Sway, speaking of great guitar and your fave song (Sway), this might be a good time to ask...

A year or so ago, you posted a piece on this board that made me weep. It was basically along the lines of "Why Sway Is My Fave Stones Song", and it was beautiful. Even the folks on this board who hate you loved you for that piece you posted. I kept a copy but couldn't find it the other day.

If you still had this, post it again - I'd be so grateful. Maybe a new thread is in order again...

unfortunately I do not save any of my prestigious posts.

I've never felt the need to.... mainly because many RocksOffers, like yourself, often save them as keepsakes to re-read in times of inspiration.

over the years I've received many gracious gifts in thanks for my posts. One RocksOffer even had one of my posts hand written in gorgeous calligraphy on parchment paper and framed and sent me a copy as a gift. Others have had them printed on t-shirts. One RocksOffer told me she prints out all my finest posts and keeps them in a leather bound binder. Patrick Mimran has had them printed on billboards in Paris, Moscow, NY and Rome.

as you know, I am much loved. I do my best to take it all in stride.
